Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 522

“Don’t be silly. There’s no way. It’s probably just someone with the same name.” Belle tried to sound calm as she explained, stepping forward and logging Amelia out of the message system in one smooth move.

In the break room, Amelia had just set down her coffee and was about to text Ryan back when a notification popped up: you’ve been logged out.

Amelia just stared at her screen, feeling a wave of dread.

She braced herself and headed back to the conference room, only to have Belle stop her at the door.

“You and Mr. Packman?!” Belle’s eyes were huge. She looked completely shocked. “What’s going on with you two?”

So she really did see something…

Amelia took a deep breath. “Ryan and I went to college together. He’s got some health issues and doesn’t like going to the doctor, so I’ve just been helping him get his prescriptions. That’s all.”

“Health issues, huh?” Belle looked at her, eyebrows raised, clearly reading way too much into it. She patted Amelia’s shoulder like she totally understood. “Makes sense. Not the sort of thing you’d trust just anyone with. Don’t worry, I logged you out and told everyone else it was just someone with the same name as Mr. Packman.”

“Thank you, Belle.”

But from the look on Belle’s face, Amelia knew she’d totally gotten the wrong idea. “Belle, it’s not like that with Ryan, he’s not—”

But trying to explain that Ryan didn’t have that kind of problem sounded even weirder.

And honestly, how would she even know?

Amelia decided it was better to just drop it.

Besides, it’s not like Belle was ever going to run into Ryan anyway.

Later that afternoon, after finishing up her work, Amelia was about to pick up Penny when her phone rang. Ryan’s name popped up on the screen.

She couldn’t help but think about Belle’s misunderstanding as she answered.

“Hey,” she said, trying to sound normal.

“Are you busy tonight?” Ryan’s voice was direct. “Want to have dinner together?”

“We just had dinner together yesterday,” Amelia said.

“But I want to see you again today.” Ryan sounded so sincere, not joking at all.

His honesty threw her off. She didn’t know what to say for a second.

She wasn’t good at playing games or pretending. So she just told the truth. “Ryan, when you say stuff like that, it really sounds like you’re trying to date me…”
