Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 523

“Diana, Penny is my daughter. If she was stuck in a trap and reached out for me, there’s no way I could ignore her.”

“She’s only five. If Kristen really is using her, that just makes me want to pull her out and keep her safe even more.”

Diana let out a sigh. “Amelia, what if Penny never warms up to you? What if she always picks Kristen no matter what? What are you going to do then? You can’t let Kristen keep using Penny to control you.”

Amelia had thought about this more times than she could count.

She gripped the steering wheel, eyes locked on the road, a faint, self-deprecating smile on her lips.

“Don’t worry, Diana. I’ve done everything I can. My conscience is clear. If Penny still chooses Kristen, maybe we just weren’t meant to be mother and daughter in this life. I’ll let go.”

Of course she loved her daughter. She’d given Penny all the love she possibly could. If that still wasn’t enough to reach her, then maybe it was time to stop trying.

Amelia pulled up outside the school just as the students started pouring out. She spotted Timmy and Penny, hand in hand, laughing together as they walked through the crowd.

The twins looked like little porcelain dolls, so striking that even the other parents couldn’t help but stare.

“Timmy, Penny!” Amelia leaned out the window and waved at them.

“Mom!” Timmy grinned, still holding Penny’s hand as they ran over and jumped into the back seat together.

Just seeing her kids made Amelia’s heart melt. She smiled at them and asked softly, “So, where should we go for dinner tonight? Any place you want to go?”

Timmy immediately chimed in, “Let Penny pick!”

He really hoped Penny would have a good time tonight and spend some more time with their mom. Maybe then she’d realize how great she was.

Amelia turned to Penny with a gentle look. “Sweetheart, it’s your call tonight. Whatever you want to do, your brother and I are in.”

Penny glanced up at her mom’s warm, smiling eyes, then looked down and mumbled, “I want to go to the Ferris Wheel Park. There’s a circus show there tonight. Tina and the others went last week and said it was really fun.”

“Ferris Wheel Park it is,” Amelia agreed right away.

She set the GPS and headed out.

The sky was painted with streaks of orange and pink, the sunset making everything glow. The park was packed with families—tons of kids everywhere for the circus show.
