Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 618

“Oh, it’s nothing.” Penny bit her tongue. Momma Kristen had already told her she’d be at the parent-child event tomorrow to surprise Dad. Lately, Momma Kristen hadn’t reached out either, so she was probably busy getting everything ready.

“Good night, Daddy. I’m heading to bed now.”

“Good night, sweetheart.”

Penny set her phone down just as Yatalia walked in with a glass of milk.

“Penny, what are you wearing to the parent-child day tomorrow?” Yatalia asked.

Even though she was still little, Penny definitely had her own style.

She thought about it, then hopped off the bed and dug through her closet. After a minute, she pulled out a red plaid suspender dress with a lace trim on the sleeves.

“I’m wearing this one tomorrow!”

“It’s adorable, but it’s a bit wrinkled. You really should hang up dresses like this,” Yatalia muttered to herself. “Did I forget it last time I cleaned the closet?”

Penny clasped her hands behind her back and rocked on her heels, a little guilty. The truth was, she’d hidden that dress at the very bottom of the closet on purpose.

Her brother had brought it back for her as a present when he’d gone out with Amelia.

“Yatalia, can you iron it for me so it looks brand new? I want to wear it to school.”

Yatalia just smiled, thinking Penny was being her usual stylish self. “Of course, I’ll have it looking perfect. You’ll be the prettiest princess at school, I promise.”

Penny mumbled under her breath, “Definitely better than that little beggar.”

“What little beggar?” Yatalia looked confused.

“Nothing! I’m going to sleep now. Can you close the door, Yatalia?”

“Yeah, it’s me.” Felix sounded tired, his voice so rough she wondered if he’d had anything to drink all day. “I need a favor. I really thought I’d be home in time for Jinx’s parent-child day, but I just got a new assignment. I won’t make it back. Could you… could you go with Jinx tomorrow instead?”

He hurried on before she could answer. “I’m not asking you to be her mom. I just hope you can be there for her. Jinx really likes you.”

“You don’t have to ask. I was already planning to,” Amelia said, her voice gentle and steady. “I’m really fond of Jinx.”

Felix went quiet for a second, then let out a soft laugh. “Thanks. I have to go.”

Amelia caught the faint sound of an explosion in the background. “Felix?”

“Yeah?”

She took a deep breath, choosing her words carefully. “You’re all coming back safe. Jinx is waiting for you.”

Felix gave a low chuckle. “Don’t worry. It’s just a hostage rescue, not a suicide mission. And honestly, with our people, we’re not losing to anyone. I’ll get everyone home.”
