Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 630

Amelia walked up holding Jinx’s hand, just as the argument hit its peak.

Penny’s cheeks were flushed bright red, her eyes shining with angry tears she refused to let fall.

“I’m not apologizing! So what if her parents are dead? That doesn’t make her special. She stole my mom and my brother. I’ll never forgive her!”

“Penny!” Timmy blurted out, shocked by her outburst.

Penny balled her fists, shoved past Timmy, and took off running. When she saw Amelia and Jinx returning hand-in-hand—a sight that just made everything sting more—she barreled between them and darted away, her eyes burning with fresh tears.

For a second, Amelia nearly chased after her. But when she saw Clive and Timmy already following, she forced herself to stay put.

“Mrs. Sadinton?” Jinx tugged gently at her hand. “Are my mom and dad really never coming back?”

Amelia’s heart twisted. She couldn’t find the words, so she just pulled Jinx into a hug. The little girl had always been good at keeping it together—she didn’t make a sound as she cried—but her tears soaked right through Amelia’s collar.

Ryan stood quietly by Amelia’s side, just being there.

With everything falling apart, there was no way the day’s activities could keep going. Amelia said a quick word to Ms. Arnold, then took Jinx to Felix’s place, where two familiar housekeepers would look after her. That made things a little easier.

Before leaving, she crouched down to Jinx’s level. “Jinx, I’m sorry. I should have done a better job raising Penny…”

“It’s okay,” Jinx said, rubbing her puffy eyes and giving Amelia a brave little smile that made her heart ache. “Penny’s not a bad person. She used to protect me and play with me. She’s just scared that I’ll take you away from her.”

Hugging her white teddy bear, Jinx added softly, “I really envy Penny. She has her mom with her… and she gets to see her all the time…”

Amelia’s chest tightened painfully.

“Jinx…”

“Mrs. Sadinton, Penny wants to be close to you. The problem is, she’s so used to other kids always trying to make her happy that she doesn’t know how to show the things she actually feels. You’re the grown-up. If you take the first step, she’ll come around. She really cares about you.”

Amelia managed a shaky smile and looked at Jinx’s wise, earnest face, feeling even sadder inside.

“Thank you, Jinx. I know I’m not your mom, but I’ll always be here for you.”

Jinx’s face lit up. “I know!” She looked down at her teddy and grinned. “When Uncle Felix comes back, I’m going to give him this bear. Thank you, Uncle Ryan, for winning it for me!”

Ryan just shrugged. “No problem.”

“Wait, Timmy.” Amelia hesitated. “Is Penny with you?”

In the back seat, Timmy looked at Penny, who squeezed her eyes shut and pretended to be asleep.

“She’s here.”

“Can you put her on? I want to talk to her.”

Penny heard and clamped her hands over her ears.

“Hang on, Mom.” Timmy knew exactly how to handle his sister—he reached over and tickled her until she couldn’t help giggling and let go. He quickly put the phone next to her ear.

Penny twisted the hem of her dress, her voice small and awkward. “Hello?”

“Penny,” Amelia said softly, “I know you probably don’t want to hear my voice right now. But you need to understand something: I am your mom. Nothing will ever change that. Jinx can’t take me or your brother away from you. But the way you treated her today was wrong. I need you to apologize. Can you do that?”

Amelia waited, but there was only silence on the other end. She was about to give up when she finally heard Penny’s tiny, almost whispered reply.

“…Okay.”
