Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 645

Clive fell silent, completely exasperated.

He finally said, “Why are you even comparing yourself to Amelia?”

Caroline hugged her arms, turning to look out the window. “If Amelia could win you over, I can win Felix too! Clive, I’ve only ever truly liked one guy in my whole life, and that’s Felix. I don’t believe for a second he doesn’t feel anything for me. If he didn’t, then why did he save me—twice?”

Clive pressed his fingers to his temples, feeling a headache coming on. “Because he’s a soldier, Caroline. You’re a citizen from his country, and when you were overseas, it was his job to protect you. That’s just him doing his duty.”

“Clive!” Caroline protested, her voice full of frustration.

Clive ignored her and told the driver, “Take us home. The family estate.”

Caroline sulked in silence, staring out the window, but finally she couldn’t hold it in. “Clive, why were Amelia and Felix at the hospital together tonight?”

Clive was scrolling on his phone and didn’t even look up. “They weren’t together. Felix’s adopted daughter, Jinx, got sick. She’s really close to Amelia, so Amelia came to take care of her. Felix just rushed back when he heard.”

“A kid?” Caroline was surprised, remembering the time she’d seen Amelia and Felix eating together at a restaurant. Penny had pushed that little girl, and Amelia had actually stood up for her—against Penny.

So that’s how it is, Caroline thought with a mix of annoyance and jealousy. Amelia always acted like she wasn’t interested in Felix, but here she was, using a kid to get close to him behind everyone’s back.

The rest of the drive was quiet. When they finally reached the Salmeron family estate, Clive had calmed down a bit. After all, Caroline was his little sister—he’d spoiled her since they were kids. She’d gone through so much, chasing after Felix in a foreign country, and she’d lost a lot of weight from all the stress.

Trying to be gentle, Clive said, “Look, I’ll talk to Mom and Dad. We’ll find you a few good guys to meet. Even if they aren’t as well-off as us, what matters is that they’ll treat you well. That way, you’ll have our support and won’t be left alone.”

But as he said it, Clive felt the words stick in his throat. He thought of Amelia, how she’d married into this family with nobody to back her up. He’d known she was bullied and isolated here, but he hadn’t cared—he’d benefited from it.

He’d always told himself that as long as he didn’t take part, he wasn’t at fault. But he’d ignored his own position. He was Amelia’s husband, the one person she should have been able to count on. His indifference and silence had been the worst betrayal.

A wave of guilt crashed over him, tightening in his chest.

Caroline didn’t say a word. She headed straight upstairs, passing through the living room without looking back.

Mrs. Salmeron—Alexandra—came out of her room, pulling her robe tighter around herself. “Caroline?” she called, but her daughter had already disappeared. She frowned at Clive. “What happened? She just got home, and now she’s storming off again in the middle of the night?”

Clive let out a weary sigh. “She went to see Felix.”

“Felix?” Alexandra frowned even more. “Is she still not over him? I’m going to talk to her.”

She walked to Caroline’s door and tried to open it, but it was locked. Annoyed, she knocked. “Caroline?”

“Let it go, Mom,” Clive said, stopping her. “She’s just caught up in the moment. Felix isn’t interested. Once we introduce her to a few other decent guys, she’ll get over it.”

Clive yanked off his tie, frustration boiling inside him.

Meanwhile, at the hospital—

Jinx’s drip had finished, and she was fast asleep, one tiny hand still clutching Amelia’s. Amelia, exhausted after the long night, had dozed off at the bedside.

Ryan took off his coat and gently draped it over her shoulders. He carefully slipped Amelia’s hand from Jinx’s grasp, tucked the little girl in, then bent down and picked Amelia up, wrapping her snugly in his coat.

As he turned to leave, he spotted Felix leaning against the doorway, eyes full of meaning.

Ryan gave him a small nod and walked past, carrying Amelia out.

Felix watched them leave, then glanced back at the bed. Jinx had woken up at some point and was quietly watching him, her eyes wide.

Felix walked over and patted her gently on the head. “Did I wake you?”

Jinx shook her head. “Uncle Felix, do you like Mrs. Sadinton?”

Felix sat at the edge of the bed, thinking for a moment, then smiled. “Liking someone isn’t something I can decide all on my own.”
