Karma Doesn’t Sleep The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 654

The next evening, Clive showed up at school to pick up Penny himself. But Amelia wasn’t there. Instead, it was Donna who came for Timmy. For the next two days, it was the same story.

By the third day, Clive couldn’t help asking Donna, “Is Amelia really busy with work lately?”

Donna barely looked up from her phone. “Wow, it’s getting colder by the day, isn’t it? Mr. Salmeron, you should layer up. Don’t go freezing just to look cool. And honestly, it’s not like it makes you look that great anyway. I think Ms. Sadinton’s new boyfriend, Mr. Packman, is a lot more handsome than you.”

Clive’s eyebrows knit together. “Does Ryan come by often?”

Donna gave him a once-over. “Mr. Salmeron, you’re the ex-husband. Don’t you think you’re being a little nosy?”

Clive had nothing to say to that.

Timmy and Penny came out, chatting and laughing together. Jinx trailed behind them, moving a little too slow for Penny’s liking, so Penny spun around and tugged her forward. The two girls were obviously friends again.

“Daddy!” Penny called, running straight into Clive’s arms.

Jinx kept her distance. Even though she was young, she sensed that things between Clive and Amelia hadn’t ended well, and she’d already decided she didn’t like him much. After saying goodbye to Timmy and Penny, she left with her nanny.

Donna hurried Timmy into their car after he said goodbye to Clive, not looking back.

When Donna and Timmy got home, Donna was surprised to find Amelia in the kitchen for a change, whipping up a few home-cooked dishes instead of being buried in paperwork.

“Ms. Sadinton, are you finally done with your work?” Donna asked.

Amelia smiled. “The Green Wall project will be wrapped up tomorrow. You’ve been working so hard lately, Donna, so tonight I’m making dinner to thank you.”

Donna waved her off. “Oh, please. This is just my job! And you pay me so well, you really don’t have to do this.”

Amelia laughed and gently pulled Donna to sit at the table. “You’re like family to me. How could I not?”

After dinner, while Timmy played on the computer, Donna cleaned up and filled Amelia in on Clive coming to school every day.

“He even tried to ask about you! I’m telling you, Salmeron is totally regretting the divorce and wants you back. Some people only learn after they crash and burn. But it’s too late now! Men, honestly.” Donna chuckled as she spoke.

Amelia just smiled, not bothering to reply. She didn’t want to waste another second thinking about Clive.

That night, Amelia had just come out of the shower, her hair half-dry, when Ryan’s video call popped up.

She answered, and his outrageously handsome face filled the screen. Even after seeing him so many times, she had to admit that whoever made Ryan had been especially generous.

“You look tired,” Ryan said, his brow creasing as he noticed the dark circles under her eyes.

Amelia flopped onto her bed. “It’s been a crazy few days, but I’m almost done. My part of the Green Wall project will be finished tomorrow.”

“You’ve worked hard, Ms. Sadinton. Want me to pick you up after work?”

“Yeah,” she said, stifling a yawn.

“Same place as usual?”

She dreamed she was walking through a crowded street, holding Ryan’s hand. Suddenly, her palm was empty and he was gone. She searched everywhere, panicking, calling his name, but she couldn’t find him.

She woke up with a start. The room was dark, but her phone glowed softly on the pillow. Ryan’s face was still on the screen, peacefully asleep. He had stayed by her side all night.

Her racing heart finally calmed down.

The next morning, Amelia arrived at the research facility right on time. She and her team spent all morning putting the last touches on their project.

“Everyone’s been working so hard,” Susie, her deputy, said. “Let’s all go out for dinner tonight!”

“I’ll pass,” Amelia replied, “but dinner’s on me.”

“You’re not coming?” Susie eyed her, suspicious. “What’s up? Got a date, or do you need to babysit your two little treasures?”

Amelia smiled, her lips curving. “I do have a date with a treasure—but he’s a big one.”

Ryan was way too tall to be called anything else.

The team burst out in teasing laughter. They’d always wondered who would be lucky enough to date their beautiful, brilliant boss after that clueless ex-husband of hers.

Susie slung an arm around her. “I knew it! Spill! Who is he?”

Amelia was just about to confess when Greg called out from across the room, “Amelia, Dr. Wade needs to see you.”
