Chapter 120
“Jasmine, what’s going on? Why are you asking Zoya to apologize?” Daphne asked in confusion.
“A few days ago, Nicolas and I attended an orphanage event, and I realized Zoya might’ve been the one secretly messaging reporters to trash my reputation. I wanted to check her phone, but she wouldn’t let me, and she gave both Nicolas and me nothing but attitude,” Jasmine explained.
Jasmine paused dramatically before continuing, “Daphne, Nicolas’s wrist was broken thanks to Zoya. If it weren’t for her, how could Wren have ended up breaking Nicolas’s wrist?”
Daphne’s expression changed drastically.
Wren actually broke Nicolas’s wrist for Zoya’s sake?‘ Daphne thought, stunned.
Wren was never the kind of man who would raise his hand for anyone, yet for Zoya, he’d done it again and again…
Thinking of this, Daphne immediately turned to Zoya. “Zoya, hurry up and apologize to Jasmine and Mr. Mayer!”
Zoya couldn’t even be bothered to respond.
It was Laurence who’d called her over earlier, and he’d mentioned the same thing. He wanted her to hurry and fly the helicopter to the island for the rescue. She didn’t want to waste any more time here.
“Don’t you walk away, Zoya!” Daphne rushed to block her path.
After all, Daphne was desperate to get Jasmine to do the rescue, hoping that sending her would fix her own
mess.
If anything happened to those Lucero Group employees stranded on the island, she’d be held responsible
too.
“Why wouldn’t I?” Zoya shot back, amused.
Jasmine stepped up, pressing her. “Zoya, aren’t you a retired soldier? Don’t you love showing how kind you are? Well, I’m giving you that chance right now.”
She continued, “All you have to do is apologize to me. If I’m satisfied, I’ll pilot the helicopter and go save those people. But if you refuse and I get upset, I might mess up and fail to rescue those people! And if those Lucero Group employees can’t be saved in time, that’s all on you!”
Jasmine was blatantly trying to guilt–trip her.
Nicolas, who had been silent, finally spoke. “Zoya, you don’t have to apologize to me, but you should at least apologize to Jasmine. She’s a hero. She doesn’t deserve to be slandered by you!”
“A hero?” Zoya scoffed. She knew Jasmine was not a hero at all.
Chapter 120
Anyone who saw Jasmine up on that orphanage stage could tell she was hiding something.
Zoya said, “I don’t know if she’s a hero. But if you’re accusing me of slander, at least show me some proof. And now, I don’t have time to waste on your nonsense.”
“Zoya, if you don’t apologize to Jasmine, don’t even think about leaving!” Daphne snapped, signaling for the security guards to surround her.
Zoya frowned.
“Zoya, do you not value the lives of the Lucero Group employees? Every minute you delay could put them in even more danger!” Daphne scolded from her moral high ground. “If anything happens to them, I won’t forgive you!”
“So why aren’t you blaming Jasmine?” Zoya sneered. “She’s refusing to help just because of a personal grudge. Is that supposed to be okay?”
Daphne was momentarily stumped, then shot back, “That’s only because you won’t apologize!”
“Why does she have to apologize?” Wren’s voice suddenly rang out.
Zoya whipped around, spotting Wren walking over. “Why are you here?”
“Kimberly told me you were heading to Lucero Group, so I came by to check things out,” Wren said, his eyes. narrowing coldly at Daphne.
Daphne instantly felt a cold shiver creep down her back.
Jasmine piped up, “Mr. Richmond, after what went down at the orphanage, doesn’t Zoya owe Nicolas and me an apology? Or are you offering to do it for her?”
Wren let out a cold laugh. “Are you even qualified to receive my apology?”
“Whether we’re worthy or not isn’t your concern,” Jasmine said, her voice sharpening. “If you want me to pilot the helicopter, she has to apologize first!”
A dangerous glint flashed in Wren’s eyes, but before he could speak, Zoya stepped forward. “Jasmine, people’s lives aren’t something you can use as leverage. If you don’t want to save them, that’s on you. But I will.”
“What? You’re going to save them?” Daphne blurted out.
Jasmine shot her a look full of contempt. “Zoya, don’t make me laugh. You? Save them? Even if you did fly planes in the military, so what? It’s been three years. You’re probably rusty as hell. And with those crazy winds out on the island, you really think you can handle it?”
“Shut up and watch,” Zoya shot back.
“Zozo, I’ve been waiting ages for you,” Laurence said as he hurried over.
“Uncle Laurence, I can fly the helicopter to the island for the rescue!” Zoya declared.
Laurence replied, “Alright, let’s go! Helicopter’s up on the rooftop, ready to roll.”
The security guards who’d been blocking Zoya just a moment ago backed off immediately.
“Uncle Laurence, you’re really letting Zoya take the helicopter and go rescue them?” Daphne exclaimed, clearly shocked,
“Who else is going to do it? Jasmine?” Laurence shot Jasmine a cold look, making it obvious he’d just heard her trying to use an apology as leverage for the rescue. His impression of her had soured completely.
Daphne was left speechless.
Zoya and Wren followed Laurence into the elevator.
Daphne glanced at Jasmine. “Jasmine, since Zoya’s going to handle the rescue, you…”
“Laurence seriously thinks Zoya can pull this off? She probably won’t even get the chopper past the coastline, let alone the island!” Jasmine said bitterly as she stormed off toward the elevator. “I want front–row seats to watch her crash and burn!”
“Yes! Let’s see how long before they come begging you to take over!” Daphne hurried after her.
Nicolas remained silent, keeping his thoughts to himself.
Inside the elevator, Jasmine frowned. “Nicolas, why aren’t you saying anything? Zoya’s just setting herself up for embarrassment. You’ll see how she fails!”
‘Embarrassment?‘ Nicolas mused, falling even quieter.
He had a bad feeling that they would be the ones who got humiliated.
He had seen Zoya fly before. Her skills were far superior to Jasmine’s.
It didn’t take long before the three of them made it to the rooftop, where Zoya was about to climb into the helicopter. Wren grabbed her arm, saying, “Let someone else do it. You don’t have to risk yourself!”
He was terrified something might happen to her.
“There’s no time! The sooner we get there, the more hope we have of pulling off the rescue!” Zoya shot back.
“Then I’m going with you!” Wren said stubbornly.
“You’re not trained for rescue operations. You’d only make things harder,” she said softly. “Trust me. I’ll be fine.”
Wren fixes his gaze on Zoya, his expression steadfast. “Alright, I’ll be waiting for you to come back.”
Zoya climbed aboard the helicopter. Moments later, the blades began to spin, and the aircraft lifted steadily into the sky, heading toward the island.
Jasmine stared in disbelief as the helicopter faded into the distance.
Zova, actually flew out to the island? And she’s smooth and steady! Impossible!‘ Jasmine thought.
Zova was supposed to be bluffing. This was supposed to be her chance to humiliate Zoya. So why… why did it feel like she was the one being humiliated instead?
