Jasmine’s face changed for a second, but she quickly forced a smile. “You should be grateful I didn’t manage to rescue anyone. If I had saved someone, that would have meant you had a problem. Didn’t you know? My helicopter was right behind yours that day. When I saw you safely lift those people up, I finally breathed a sigh of relief. I was afraid something might happen to you.”
“Really?” Zoya raised an eyebrow, pretending to realize something. “So that was you flying the helicopter that just hovered behind me, not going anywhere? I thought maybe you were just too scared to come any closer because you couldn’t handle the island winds.”
Jasmine’s cheeks flushed red at Zoya’s jab.
“Zoya, there’s no need to be like that. Jasmine was just waiting to see how things turned out. If you couldn’t rescue the person, she would’ve flown in to help!” Nicolas jumped in to defend Jasmine.
Zoya gave a cold laugh. “Is that so? If you want to trust her, be my guest.”
“Alright, we’re about to start recording,” the host said with a big smile.
Wren told Zoya, “I’m heading to my seat in the audience.”
“Okay,” Zoya responded.
Wren turned and made his way toward the audience, with Nicolas trailing right after him.
Once everyone participating in the interview sat down, the host began with a few formal words, then asked, “Today, the two pilots who joined the rescue both brought someone with them. May I ask, who are these two gentlemen to you?”
As soon as the host finished, the cameras immediately swung over to Wren and Nicolas, who were sitting in the front row of the audience.
Of course, the host’s real goal was to get the cameras on Wren. Nicolas was just a bonus.
On the big screen in the studio, a shot of Wren and Nicolas sitting in the audience popped up. But it was clearly Wren who dominated the shot.
Most of the audience didn’t know who Wren was, but his striking looks made everyone stop and stare.
“He’s my boyfriend,” Zoya said gracefully and openly.
Wren’s eyes lit up with excitement as soon as he heard Zoya admit it. A genuine smile broke across his lips.
He knew that her bold confession in front of everyone meant that he finally had a rightful place by her side.
The host looked astonished, then, glancing at Wren’s smile, instantly realized it was true.
The host couldn’t believe her luck. A simple talk show, and she’d landed a bombshell scoop, with the two actually going public about their relationship right on air.
This episode was going to send the ratings through the roof, no question about it.
Just thinking about it, the host could barely contain her excitement.
“So, could you tell us how you two met and what made you decide to get together?” the host asked.
Zoya replied, “Today’s interview isn’t really about my personal life, so maybe it’s best if we leave that for another time.”
The host then turned to Jasmine. “Ms. Ingram, is the gentleman accompanying you a friend?”
“He’s the founder and CEO of Mayer Technology. And he’s also my fiancé, Nicolas Mayer.” Jasmine said, her voice steady and proud.
‘Zoya’s boyfriend is Wren, but so what? They could still break up,‘ Jasmine scoffed inwardly.
She thought, ‘But having a fiancé is on a whole different level. That means a real promise. A future marriage that couldn’t be easily undone.‘
Her words, however, stunned Nicolas the most. His face changed abruptly, and the camera caught it.
“So Ms. Ingram came with her fiancé today! I heard when you went out for that rescue, he was right there on the chopper with you. He must love you very much to have risked himself out of concern for you,” the host teased.
“Yeah, Nicolas really loves me,” Jasmine said confidently, then smiled over at Nicolas in the audience. “Isn’t that right, Nicolas?”
Nicolas’s mind was in chaos. It had been Jasmine who insisted he come today. He had thought this interview had nothing to do with him. But he hadn’t expected her to publicly announce their engagement on national
television!
He had accepted that they were together, but he had never intended to make it
engagement.

If he went along with it now, people would start asking about their wedding plans.
If he remarried right after his divorce, people would have a field day talking behind his back. That would totally be a stain on his reputation.
To make things worse, he kept asking himself lately if he even loved Jasmine.
Jasmine was right there with him, yet he didn’t feel happy. He felt so empty inside.
Right now, with the cameras rolling and Jasmine’s hopeful gaze locked onto him, he could only force out a bitter smile and say, “Yeah, I love you.”
Jasmine smiled, completely satisfied. In front of everyone, Nicolas had just admitted they were engaged.
Once this episode aired, everyone across the country would know about their engagement. By then, Jasmine would have him locked in for good. Nicolas would have no way out but to marry her soon.
And after they tied the knot, even if he one day found out she wasn’t really the person who saved him, it wouldn’t even matter anymore.
Zoya glanced at Nicolas, noting the strained smile on his face. He looked reluctant, as if he didn’t actually want to acknowledge it.
‘Wait, wasn’t Jasmine supposed to be the one he was always obsessed with?‘ Zoya wondered.
Whatever drama those two had, it was none of her business now anyway.
The host started the official interview. “Could the two pilots tell us how you felt when you learned people were trapped and needed to be rescued? Given the risks, did you hesitate at all?”
“How could I hesitate?” Jasmine jumped in eagerly. “When someone’s in danger, and I have the ability to help, of course I’ll step forward without hesitation!”
Her righteous tone drew thunderous applause from the audience.
The host gazed at Jasmine with open admiration. “From what I know, you are not just the co–pilot for Cloud Airlines. She’s a hero too. Five years ago, you joined a border wildfire rescue operation. Everyone, let’s give a round of applause to this hero!”
So the applause swelled again. Jasmine basked in it, visibly pleased.
The host turned to Zoya. “And what about you, Ms. Lucero? What was going through your mind at that moment?”
Zoya replied calmly, “All I was thinking was, a life was at stake. Jasmine isn’t the only person in this world who can fly a helicopter. If she wanted to use those people as bargaining chips, then I’d just step up, take the pilot seat, and make sure the rescue happened myself.”
“What?” The host froze, stunned.
Jasmine suddenly jumped to her feet, cheeks flaming as she yelled, “Zoya, you’re out of line! Stop making wild accusations!”
Zoya met Jasmine’s glare with icy calm, then coolly whipped out her phone.
Right then, an audio clip blasted through the studio, echoing in every corner.
