Zoya blinked in disbelief. Harvey had only called her last night. She didn’t expect him to show up at the villa doorstep this soon.
The car rolled to a halt. Zoya unbuckled, reaching for the door, but Wren grabbed her hand out of nowhere, stopping her.
“What’s wrong?” Zoya asked, glancing over at him.
Wren hesitated, biting his lip. “It’s nothing. I’m a bit surprised. Why did he come here?”
“Yeah, it’s definitely unexpected. Let’s go and see what he wants,” Zoya replied, slipping her hand away from Wren’s grip before stepping out of the car.
Wren stared at his suddenly empty hand, his gaze growing darker as he looked out the window, locking eyes with Harvey.
Honestly, Wren wasn’t that surprised to see Harvey here.
Wren thought, ‘Since Harvey harbors feelings for Zozo, it is like hell he will stay back in Ranard City once he finds out she is dating me. Of course, he has shown up at Marabotara.
“The fact that Harvey had dropped everything and rushed over here only made it clearer how important Zozo is to him.‘
A sense of crisis was spreading in Wren’s heart.
Wren never worried about Nicolas, but Harvey was a different matter entirely. Wren couldn’t afford to ignore Harvey.
Zoya walked up to Harvey and said, “What are you doing here? You didn’t even give me a heads–up.”
“Figured I’d surprise you,” Harvey said with a half–smile. “After all, back in Ranard City, seeing you and Wren together took me by surprise. Honestly, I’m still wrapping my head around it.”
As he finished his words, Harvey’s gaze shifted past Zoya to Wren, who was now stepping out of the car and heading their way.
The eyes of Harvey and Zoya met midair, electricity practically sparking between them.
“You’ve only been in Marabotara for such a short time. How can you be so sure about being with Wren?” Harvey’s tone was tense, disbelief flickering in his eyes.
Zoya smiled and said, “I didn’t expect this either, but I’m sure. I do want to be with him.”
Harvey’s gaze darkened. Zoya was so open and honest that he couldn’t even comfort himself with excuses like her being forced into it or not really wanting it.
“Yeah, we’re together,” Wren said, stepping up beside Zoya and taking her hand in his. Their fingers laced
tightly together, as if staking his claim.
Upon seeing their hands so tightly intertwined, Harvey felt like a punch right to his eyes–brutally glaring.
“Zoya, why’d you pick Wren? What’s so great about him, anyway?” Harvey glared at Wren, frustration twisting
his voice.
As soon as Harvey asked, Wren’s grip on Zoya’s hand tightened a little. He was anxious to hear Zoya’s answer.
“I guess it’s because I like him, so I want to be with him. As for what’s so great about him…, he treats me well,” Zoya said after a moment’s thought.
“Then I could treat you…” Harvey started, but Wren cut him off before he could finish his words.
“Why are we hanging out at the door? Let’s head inside and talk,” Wren chimed in, casually possessive. “Oh, Mr. Crawford, since you’re Zozo’s friend, you can go ahead and call me Wren, if you’re cool with that.”
Zoya choked on her breath, whipping a speechless look at Wren. ‘Where does he even come up with this stuff?‘ she thought.
Harvey glared at Wren, saying, “Mr. Richmond, aren’t you a little too eager? You and Zoya aren’t even hitched yet. Besides, who can say what’s coming? For some people and things, what you love today might not mean anything to you tomorrow.”
“But I know Zozo isn’t the type to waver. What she wants is a real, unwavering love. If I stick around, she’ll stick with me, right, Zozo?” Wren said, lifting their fingers still locked together, and kissed the back of Zoya’s hand like it was nothing.
Harvey was grinding his teeth so hard he thought they’d crack. “The asshole… What a fake nice guy! He’s doing all this to get under my skin!‘ Harvey thought, feeling his blood boil.
Zoya’s cheeks turned pink as she pulled her hand away. “Alright, let’s go inside already!”
Once the three of them got inside the villa, Zoya was about to make some coffee for Harvey, but Wren stepped in. “Let me do it.”
Zoya didn’t mind. After all, Wren’s coffee–making skills were much better than hers.
Wren took his sweet time preparing the coffee, glancing over at Harvey with a cool smile. “Mr. Crawford, you dropped by all of a sudden… Zozo and I weren’t expecting company. So, when are you heading back to Ranard City?”
Wren tossed out “Zozo” again and again, and each time it made Harvey’s forehead veins twitch. Harvey could feel himself getting more and more worked up.
If Zoya weren’t standing right there, Harvey would’ve flipped the whole table, no doubt about it.
“Zoya, when are you heading back to Ranard City?” Harvey shot back, dodging the question.
“Me?” Zoya blinked in surprise, a bit thrown. “I’ll go back once the demolition of the old residence is taken care of.”
Her parents were already laid to rest, and most of the issues with their estate had been sorted out. Once the title of the old residence was officially transferred to her name, she could finally return to Ranard City.
“Well, I guess I’ll just tag along to Ranard City with you,” Harvey said, grinning.
Wren’s brows drew together.
Zoya asked, “So, you’re here in Marabotara for…?”
“I came to see you, Zoya. Things are pretty much sorted back in Ranard City, so I have some spare time. I remembered you said you’d show me around Marabotara one day. You’re not gonna say no since you happen to be here now, right?” Harvey replied, looking hopeful.
“Of course not,” Zoya said. Back when she was still in the army, she’d chatted with Harvey about her hometown and promised she’d give him the grand tour if he ever visited.
“Then, I’ll be waiting for you to give me the grand tour, Zoya,” Harvey said with a grin.
“You got it,” Zoya replied with a friendly smile.
Suddenly, something popped into Zoya’s mind. She turned to Harvey and said, “By the way, you borrowed my umbrella last time. Since you’re here now, I’ll go grab it and give it back to you.”
Then, Zoya hurried upstairs.
With Zoya upstairs, the spacious living room was left in silence with Wren and Harvey.
Wren finished brewing the coffee and slid a cup of coffee before Harvey. “Please, Mr. Crawford,” said Wren.
Harvey stared at Wren and said coldly, “Wren, I don’t know what kind of moves you pulled to make Zoya agree to date you, but you aren’t even in her league. You and she are worlds apart.”
Wren’s eyes darkened, lips curling into a taunting smirk. “You don’t get to decide if I’m good enough for Zoya, or if we belong together. Zozo’s into me now. I’m the one she’ll grow old with. Better get used to the idea.”
“In your dreams!” Harvey shot up, leaning across the table and yanking Wren up by the collar, glaring daggers at him.
“What, Mr. Crawford? You gonna throw a punch?” Wren raised an eyebrow, smirking. “Is it because you’re jealous I’m with Zozo? Face it. You’ll always be just her friend. From the day you started calling her Zoya. That sealed your fate.”
“You…” Harvey’s eyes darkened even further, a bitter laugh twisting on his lips. “Wren, you went after my mother’s law firm on purpose, to force me out of Marabotara so you could freely manipulate Zoya, right? What would Zoya think of you if she found out how shameless you are?”
Harvey’s stare went right past Wren, fell on Zoya, who was standing at the top of the stairs.
He’d made sure his voice was loud enough to be heard by Zoya.
As if it had just clicked, Wren snapped his head around, following Harvey’s gaze toward the staircase.
