Chapter 151
That was… the Cloud Airlines
press
conference.
Jasmine’s eyes locked onto the electronic screen.
The voice of the news announcer rang out again, “Following a thorough investigation, Cloud Airlines has decided to terminate Jasmine’s employment. Effective immediately, she will no longer hold any position within Cloud Airlines…”
Jasmine’s face turned deathly pale. ‘No way, this can’t be happening! Cloud Airlines is firing me? How can they do it without notifying me?‘
Right at that moment, her phone lit up with a new message. Hands trembling, she tapped it open, only to see an official notice from Cloud Airlines, confirming her dismissal.
Her hand shook so badly that she almost dropped her phone.
“Jasmine, what’s this about them taking away your hero title? And why is Cloud Airlines firing you?” Anica asked, her voice full of confusion.
Jasmine’s mind went blank for a moment, leaving her at a loss for words.
“Mom, just drop it,” Nicolas said.
“How can I just drop it? Does this mean Jasmine isn’t a co–pilot anymore?” Anica pressed.
After all, she’d been boasting to everyone back home about how her future daughter–in–law was a co–pilot at Cloud Airlines. If Jasmine lost that position, how was she supposed to hold her head high?
“Jasmine, seriously, what’s going on?” Violette also asked anxiously.
“Violette, didn’t you say it was no big deal even if Jasmine walked away and didn’t help when someone was dying? Are you still so sure about that?” Eowyn scoffed. “Jasmine had a fire extinguisher right there, but instead of helping, she just left the scene.
“That’s exactly why she lost her hero title and her job at Cloud Airlines.
“Honestly, she only got promoted to co–pilot so young because of that hero reputation. Now, with her title revoked, getting fired is just par for the course.
“I just wonder if any other airline will ever hire your beloved Jasmine again.”
Every word Eowyn spoke made Anica and Violette’s expressions shift time and again.
Eowyn definitely wasn’t keeping her voice down, so half the mall could hear her. Coupled with the news playing on the big screen just moments ago, people all around started gossiping and pointing fingers at Jasmine.
Jasmine’s face was a mess of shame and anger. “Nicolas, I want to go home first,” she muttered.
“Sure. I’ll send you home right now,” Nicolas said quickly.
But right then, Anica stormed up, shoved Nicolas aside, and glared at Jasmine. “So that’s what all this generosity is about. You got fired by the airline, and now you’re trying to bribe us so we’ll be too embarrassed to call you out?”
Even if Jasmine had initially intended to use money to control Anica and Violette, she couldn’t admit it now. “Mrs. Mayer, that’s not true…” she denied quickly.
“Not true? You’re not a co–pilot anymore, and now your reputation’s ruined. Tell me, how are you even good enough for my son?” Anica spat viciously, her demeanor a stark contrast to the approving face she’d shown Jasmine earlier. “Nicolas, I refuse to let you be with Jasmine!”
“Mom!” Nicolas felt mortified. His mother’s public outburst gave him a headache, especially since it was in front of Zoya.
Jasmine shot back, her face cold, “Nicolas and I truly love each other, Mrs. Mayer. You can’t just break us apart like this!”
Now that she was in a difficult situation, it was even less likely she’d let go of Nicolas. She still needed to use him to turn things around.
Smack!
A sharp slap landed directly on Jasmine’s face.
Jasmine’s cheek burned with pain, and Anica sneered, “True love? What a joke! You’re nothing but a homewrecker who deliberately seduced my son!”
Jasmine clutched her stinging cheek, her face flushed crimson with humiliation and anger. “Even if you’re Nicolas’s mother, that doesn’t give you the right to treat me this way!”
“Oh, really?” Eowyn chuckled, enjoying every second of Jasmine’s humiliation. “Weren’t you just telling Zoya not to argue with elders? You said if Nicolas’s mother screamed at you or even slapped you, you’d just put up with all of it, didn’t you?”
Jasmine felt a seething lump rise in her throat, choking on her fury, unable to either let it out or swallow it
down.
Jasmine knew those words had been nothing but a ploy to undermine Zoya and please Anicas
But now, those very words had come back like a boomerang, striking her with brutal force.
With no other choice, Jasmine reached out to Nicolas in desperation, hoping he would speak up for her.
“Nicolas…”
But before Nicolas could get a word out, Zoya cut in, “Nicolas, since you’re so filial, I guess you’d tell Jasmine
your mother is the elder, so even if she scolds Jasmine or even hits her, Jasmine should endure it.”
that
Nicolas was completely at a loss for words, Zoya’s mocking stare making his throat feel tight and dry. Anything he wanted to say just got stuck inside.
Anica kept ranting, throwing one insult after another at Jasmine.
Jasmine couldn’t hold back anymore and snapped right back. That only made Anica furious, and even Violette jumped in, adding fuel to the shouting match.
“Mom, Jasmine, please, stop it!” Nicolas shouted, desperately stepping between them before things could get
any messier.
Zoya watched the chaos and turned to Eowyn, “Come on, let’s just go home.”
They had already gotten what they needed anyway.
“But I haven’t had enough yet.” Eowyn glanced at the scene before her, a cutthroat drama, and found it utterly fascinating.
Just moments ago, Anica, Violette, and Jasmine had been a united front, and now they are tearing into each other like enemies. Honestly, the whole thing is a sight to behold,‘ Eowyn sighed inwardly.
“You can stay and watch if you want,” Zoya raised an eyebrow.
“Forget it,” Eowyn said, rubbing her nose as she glanced around at people already filming the chaos. “Give it a few minutes, and this whole disaster will be blowing up online.”
Once they stepped out of the mall, Zoya immediately noticed Wren’s car parked not too far away. The moment he caught sight of Zoya, Wren jumped out, clearly there to pick her up.
Eowyn caught on right away and grinned, “Alright, I’m not about to play third wheel. I’ll leave first.”
With that, she gave a casual wave and strolled off toward her own car.
“Got everything you needed?” Wren asked, glancing at the shopping bags in Zoya’s hands. He took them from her without a second thought and loaded them into the car.
“Yeah, all set,” Zoya replied. “By the way, the news about Jasmine on the big screen… Was that arrangement?”
She was pretty sure the Richmond family owned this mall.
your
Zoya wasn’t buying any talk of coincidences. There was no way the news about Jasmine just happened to air right as she was fighting with her.
“Yeah,” Wren said, his eyes flashing with a cool glint. “If she pisses you off, she can forget about having a good day herself.”
‘No one lays a finger on my Zozo, Wren thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Daphne kept flipping through the three photos she’d picked up last time, her eyes lingering on
each one.
She’d already learned from Waldo that these were pictures of Zoya’s brother, Oscar,
But Daphne was pretty sure she’d never met Oscar before. ‘So why does he look so familiar?‘ she wondered.
Suddenly, a realization hit Daphne out of nowhere. She started frantically searching her room, shoving things aside until she finally dug out a photo album.
‘If the face in these photos really is the one I’ve seen before… Daphne fell into deep thought.
