Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 165

Chapter 165

Zoya looked up and saw Wren walking toward her.

His handsome face was icy cold.

Wren walked up to Zoya, took her hand, then shot Daphne a steely look. What betrayal? Why don’t explain it? I’d love to hear it.

you

Daphne felt a sudden chill run down her spine as cold sweat broke out across her back. Instinct told her that if she blurted out the secrets she’d uncovered right now, she might not live to see another day.

The things she’d found were her leverage. She intended to use that discovery to squeeze more benefits out of Wren and fight her way back into the center of power in the Lucero family.

Daphne pleaded, Wren, I just feel that if you ever betrayed Zoya, with the way she is, she’d never let it slide and never forgive you. She’d definitely walk away from you without looking back.

A woman so unforgiving, so unwilling to tolerate the slightest flaw, really isn’t right for you. What you need is someone who truly loves you and accepts you, no matter what you’ve done!

Wren’s face grew grim, his lips pressed into a razorthin line as if he was struggling to hold himself together.

Daphne’s words practically screamed that she was hinting at something. Has she uncovered some secret?Wren wondered.

Back in those days, Daphne had gone with Zoya to the frontier, and she’d even met Zoya’s older brother then.

At that thought, Wren’s hand holding Zoya’s began to tremble ever so slightly, the chill creeping into his grip.

Zoya shot Wren a puzzled look, squeezed his hand reassuringly, then turned her eyes back to Daphne. Whatever goes on between Wren and me is none of your concern.

If you keep spouting nonsense in front of us, you might just find yourself stuck in a hospital bed.

Daphne’s face changed instantly. You’re threatening me?

Absolutely,Zoya replied with chilling calm, and the cold sharpness in her eyes made Daphne’s spine prickle

with fear.

At that moment, Daphne could honestly picture Zoya getting physical.

Zoya turned to Wren, her expression unwavering, and said, Let’s get out of here.”

Wren gave a silent nod.

Daphne glared at their backs, her eyes flashing with frustrated unwillingness. She thought, I’m not here to witness Zoya and Wren end up together.

I

gave up an eye and wasted years trying to get close to Wren. Now, just because Zoya turns up, everything

I’ve fought for is falling apart.

Daphne yelled, her voice wild with frustration, Zoya, seriously, don’t you even care that Wren’s got someone else on his mind? There’s always been another girl in Wren’s heart. She risked everything to save his life.

All these years, he’s never stopped searching for her. Aren’t you scared that if he ever finds her, he’ll fall head over heels and toss you aside for good?

Zoya froze midstep, and in that instant, she could feel Wren’s hand becoming rigid.

Even Wren’s breathing grew ragged, his chest rising and falling in quick, shallow bursts.

His face went ghostly pale, all the color draining away in an instant.

Zoya thought, Is Daphne telling the truth?

Has Wren really been searching all this time for the girl who saved him?

Zozo, I…” Wren stammered, clearly trying to explain himself.

Zoya held

up her hand to stop him. Save it. We’ll talk when we get home.”

With that, she let go of his hand and walked straight toward Daphne.

Wren suddenly felt emptiness in his palm. The warmth that had just been there vanished the second she let go, leaving him cold inside.

With every step she took, the gap between Zoya and Wren seemed to grow wider and wider.

That sense of distance gnawed at him, flooding his heart with a sharp, restless fear. He felt like someday, she might walk away from him forever.

No, I can’t let this happen!Wren thought.

He opened his mouth, trying to call out to her, but no sound would come. Every word was trapped and strangled in his throat.

By now, Zoya was standing right in front of Daphne.

Daphne raised her chin arrogantly, forcing herself to sound calm. I’m telling the truth. Zoya, the person that Wren loves is that girl. The moment she shows up, you won’t even matter to him anymore!

Zoya swung her hand and slapped Daphne right across the face.

A vivid red imprint instantly burned into Daphne’s perfectly madeup cheek.

Daphne winced in pain, her face twisted in fury as she screamed at Zoya, You hit me? I am going to call the cops on you!

Another slap landed hard across her face, leaving Daphne gasping in pain, her voice choked off by the sting.

Zoya stared her down coldly. Go ahead and call the cops. I’ll wait right here. But tell me, Daphne, what makes you think I’d ever let you insult and degrade me again and again?

That’s becauseDaphne stammered, pain twisting her voice. Her gaze darted past Zoya and locked onto Wren, who was standing just a few steps back.

Wren’s gaze was so sharp that it was like he was ready to do something drastic to her.

It felt like if she stuck around even a second longer, Wren really might get physical.

If he made a move, it wouldn’t just be a couple of slaps like Zoya gave her. He’d go much farther, and Daphne would be lucky to walk away at all.

‘No matter what, I have to get out of here right now!Daphne thought, panic clawing at her chest.

Biting back her rage, Daphne spun around and stormed off.

Zoya spun around and strode straight up to Wren. Let’s go.

Okay,he answered, his voice hoarse and low.

Side by side and not saying a single word, the two of them made their way back to the apartment.

As soon as they stepped inside, Zoya took off her coat and looked straight at Wren, whose face was drained of color. Is what Daphne said true?

Wren just froze there. With Zoya staring him down, he felt like every drop of blood in his veins was turning to ice.

Zoya said, Don’t even try lying to me. I’ve told you, trust means everything to me. If you lie, that is the end of the story. If I can’t trust you, then I don’t see how I’m supposed to spend my whole life with someone I can’t believe in.

Wren pressed his lips tightly together, staying quiet for a while before finally answering, When I was little, I got caught up in some violent unrest overseas. There was a little girl who saved my life, but I honestly can’t remember her face anymore.

I was just a kid, barely escaped with my life, so most of it is a blur now. But ever since then, I’ve never stopped sending people to try and find out what happened to her.”

So, have you really been carrying her in your heart all this time?Zoya asked.

Wren nodded. I really have. I’ve always wanted to find her. If she’s short on money, I’d make sure she never has to worry about it for the rest of her life. If she’s in trouble, I’d help her out, just to repay her for saving my life.

So-Zoya paused, her voice faltering as an unexpected wave of anxiety surged in her chest and made her go

breathless for a moment.

She was strung tight with nerves, feeling her heart pound as she worried about both the question she was going to ask and how Wren would answer it.

Then, Zoya asked, If someday you really find her, and she is into you, what would you do? If she says she wants to be with you, could you turn her down?

She didn’t realize it before she actually let those words escape her lips.
