Zoya arrived at the shooting range Wren had mentioned. This kind of high–end, members–only range wasn’t a place one could just walk into.

Wren’s personal secretary, Gilbert, was already waiting outside. Spotting Zoya, he hurried over. “Mr. Richmond sent me to pick you up. Mrs. Mayer.”

“Thank you for the trouble,” Zoya said politely.

“Not at all.” Gilbert replied, his tone carrying a hint of deference. As Wren’s personal secretary, he had never shown such respect to many of Ranard’s wealthy heirs.

After all, though Zoya wasn’t a socialite, she was someone Wren valued. In all his years working for Wren, Gilbert had never seen Wren take an interest in a woman–even a married one.

He thought, ‘But being married probably isn’t an issue for Mr. Richmond. If he wants someone, he’d find a way to get them, even if they were a king’s wife.‘

“Mrs. Mayer, this way please,” Gilbert said, leading her inside.

Since it was an outdoor range, gunshots rang out from time to time. Zoya didn’t bat an eyelid. She was used to the sound of gunfire. Back in the military camp, shooting practice was part of her daily training.

When Zoya finally saw Wren, he was wearing simple black clothes and earmuffs, holding a gun in one hand and firing at the

target.

Gunshots rang out continuously, but Wren’s body remained perfectly still. It was clear he was an experienced shooter, his stance graceful, like a painting. And his scores were very high.

After a round, Wren lowered the gun, took off his earmuffs, and looked at Zoya. “You’re here. Earlier than I expected.”

“These are the clothes you lent me last time, Mr. Richmond,” Zoya said, stepping forward and taking out the dry–cleaned, folded garments.

Wren glanced at them faintly, and Gilbert stepped forward to take them.

“I’ll be leaving then. Won’t disturb you further,” Zoya said, turning to leave.

But Wren suddenly spoke up. “Since you’re here, why not shoot a few rounds? As a thank–you for returning my clothes, Mrs. Mayer?”

Zoya pursed her lips. “Alright. How many rounds?”

“Five rounds. Ten shots each,” he said.

A staff member came over, placing a gun, bullets, and earmuffs in front of Zoya. She looked down at the gun, a familiar feeling washing over her.

Zoya moved skillfully–checking the pistol, loading the bullets, and putting on the earmuffs.

Even after leaving the military, she had never picked up a gun again, but these once–familiar actions were etched into her bones, feeling as natural as breathing.

Zoya raised the gun, aiming at the distant target. She focused and fired. The shots echoed. Her eyes stayed fixed on the target, her expression calm yet sharp–with the sharpness of a soldier.

Even though Zoya was now retired, that sharpness still remained. Wren looked at Zoya, and for a moment, a dizzying

But when Gilbert tried to step forward, Wren shot him a cold glance, stopping him in his tracks. Wren was telling him to stay out of it.

Wren’s gaze locked onto Zoya. Her eyes, deep–set, blazed with anger–like a burning sun. But that heat was for another man. It stung him to watch.

“Did you hear me? Don’t touch Harvey. He’s not your toy, not a game for you to play with,” Zoya snapped.

Wren narrowed his eyes, his mood clearly worsening. “What about you? Will you stay with me for a while?” he asked.

Zoya froze, confused. “What do you mean?”

“If I don’t touch Harvey, will you stay with me?” Wren asked. ‘Maybe then, my interest in you will fade, he thought.

It was an infuriating question, but Wren said it so calmly, like it was the most ordinary thing in the world. Zoya’s anger

Just as she was about to speak, a voice sounded behind her. “Seems I came just in time. If you want to go after me, go ahead, Mr. Richmond. But don’t even dream of getting Zoya to stay with you.”

The familiar voice made Zoya stiffen. She turned–and saw Harvey walking into the shooting range.
