Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 57

Chapter 57

Zoya was so surprised that she stared fixedly at Wren’s back, completely forgetting to turn around.

Then, Wren’s cold voice came. “How much longer do you plan to stare?”

She suddenly snapped back to reality, quickly turning her back to him. She said, “I’m sorry!”

He slowly dressed, then walked over to Zoya. “I forgot to tell you, this door connects our rooms.

You can lock your side of the door, but mine won’t be locked. If anything unexpected happens, you can always rush into my room-”

His voice paused. He looked down at her and said, “To protect me!”

Zoya coughed awkwardly. “Of course, I won’t disturb you while you change. I’ll head back to my room.”

As she was about to leave, Wren’s hand suddenly pressed against the door connecting the two rooms, stopping her.

“Did you see everything just now?” He stared at her.

“What do you mean?” She looked up at him.

“My body.”

For some reason, under his gaze, Zoya felt her cheeks slightly warm. It wasn’t because she was shy, since she had seen naked comrades in the military camp all the time.

She felt that it must have been because she was too surprised.

After all, she hadn’t expected Wren’s back to be covered in scars.

It didn’t look like something a privileged person should have. It seemed that he had been abused before.

In that quick glance just now, Zoya felt that those injuries had taken place quite long ago.

She thought, ‘So, these injuries took plae in Wren’s childhood?

Who would inflict such cruel harm on a child?‘

Infuriated, Zoya blurted out, “Who caused the injuries on your back?”

“So, you did see it,” he said, ignoring her question, “But are you angry? Are you angry because of the scars on my back?”

His words, however, calmed her down.

She thought, ‘Why should I be angry? If Wren had indeed suffered abuse, surely the perpetrator would have already faced punishment.

‘After all, he is the current head of the Richmond family, not a weak, helpless child.

“Yes, I’m a bit angry, but it’s your private matter, and it’s not my place to interfere. I overstepped just now,” she said.

Wren’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and he released his hand. “Alright, go back to your room.”

Zoya returned to her room and closed the door.

Wren walked to a full–length mirror in the room, his back facing it. He turned his head slightly, gazing at the hideous and

ugly scars covering his back.

Those were scars from being whipped.

His father used every means to make his mother conceive a child, believing that a child could help him keep her around.

But it was useless. Even though Wren’s mother gave birth to him, and they shared a blood bond, he simply couldn’t keep

her.

So, his father would vent all his resentment and anger on him.

Every time his mother rejected his father, he would leave whip marks on Wren.

Since technology had advanced greatly, these scars could actually have been removed by lasers.

However, Wren didn’t remove them. He kept these scars on his back as a reminder that he would never allow anyone to strike him like that again.

As night fell, Zoya lay in bed, unable to sleep.

Zoya followed the sound to the bedside. Her night vision was excellent, allowing her to clearly see Wren lying on the bed even without lights.

It was hard for her to imagine such words coming from Wren, even in his sleep.

“Wren!” Zoya called out again, reaching out to touch his face, wanting to check his condition.

But just as her fingers touched his face, his hand suddenly grasped her wrist.

He was so fast that Zoya was caught off guard.

As she was about to pull away, he whispered, “Don’t leave me…”

Zoya fell silent, no longer moving, letting Wren hold her hand tightly.

Fortunately, he seemed to calm down gradually, and the pain lessened.

Since one hand was held by him, she used her other hand to pull a tissue from the box on the nightstand and gently wipe the cold sweat from his forehead.

She once thought Wren would always remain calm and cold.

Yet, at this moment, he was so vulnerable, like a child needing care.

After a while, Wren’s brows finally relaxed completely. He was sleeping soundly with no signs of waking up

Zoya looked at her wrist, still held by him, and tried to pull it free.

However, her attempts to pull away failed.

To completely free her hand, she would likely have to pry his fingers open one by one.

However, doing so would surely wake him.

She pursed her lips. Eventually, she sighed and thought, ‘Fine, if he wants to hold my hand, so be it. I could still fall asleep sitting on the chair.”

During previous missions, she could sleep anywhere, even in the harshest environments, resting as much as possible in the shortest time to recover her strength.

Zoya then sat on the carpet by the bed, leaning against the nightstand, allowing Wren to hold her hand. She then turned off the light and fell asleep.

The next morning, Zoya heard the door open, startling her awake. She opened her eyes to see Wren’s private secretary,

Gilbert Newman.

At that moment, Gilbert stared at Zoya in astonishment, stammering, “Ms. Lucero, did you sleep with Wren last night!”
