After all the burial ceremonies were completed, Zoya suppressed the pain in her heart and spoke with the officials from Marabotara and her parents’ old comrades.
Waldo had been standing by Zoya’s side, as if warning everyone.
Even though Zoya’s parents were no longer alive, she was still a member of the Lucero family, and the Lucero family supported her.
As for the younger generation of the Lucero family, seeing this situation, they had their own agendas.
One of them said, “Zoya seems quite extraordinary. So many officials are surrounding her, and Waldo is also backing her up not to mention that even Wren came to the funeral today.”
Another said, “Exactly, I heard that Wren never attends funerals except for the Richmond family’s funerals.”
Someone said, “Wren wouldn’t have fallen for Zoya, would he? What about Daphne then?”
Someone else said, “Daphne? She’s only this arrogant because she’s relying on the Richmond family’s guilt towards her.
“But she doesn’t even consider how someone like Wren could be interested in a disabled person with one eye almost gone.
“Once Daphne loses Wren’s support, she and her useless father will probably be kicked out of Lucero Group.”
Outside the restroom, Daphne listened to her peers in the family discussing her, her fingernails digging deep into her palms.
With a cold expression, she walked straight into the restroom.
The restroom immediately fell silent. The Lucero family members who had been gossiping all hushed up, looking uneasily at Daphne.
Daphne looked at the people in front of her. These were the peers who usually flattered her in the family, but behind her back, they actually thought so little of her.
She walked directly up to one of them, named Margaret Lucero, and grabbed her jaw tightly with one hand.
Her sinister gaze, seen through her glasses, fixed on Margaret’s face.
Among these people, Margaret had been the most vocal just now.
A sinister smile played on Daphne’s lips. “You say I’m arrogant, right? And you think I’m disabled? Then how about 1 ruin one of your eyes right now and turn you into a disabled person, too?
“Then you can see if anything happens to me and if Wren will protect me.”
As she spoke, she reached out, pinching Margaret’s jaw, her fingers moving towards her eyeball.
“No, I am sorry, Daphne. I beg you to forgive me. I said the wrong thing. How could Zoya compare to you!” Margaret pleaded repeatedly.
The other peers in the Lucero family didn’t dare to speak up.
After all, no one knew what the exact relationship between Zoya and Wren was.

But the relationship between Daphne and Wren was known to everyone.
Daphne looked at Margaret disdainfully, her fingernails leaving several bloody scratches on her face.

She said, “From now on, you’d better think carefully about your words before speaking. Otherwise, you won’t even know when your eyes will be gone!”
Margaret’s face was filled with fear, and she nodded repeatedly in agreement.
Daphne walked out of the restroom with a gloomy expression.
In fact, she knew better than anyone else that her current standing in the Lucero family depended on Wren’s influence.
Therefore, she absolutely could not lose Wren.
One of her eyes was damaged by Wren. As long as she deepened Wren’s guilt towards her, then she would definitely be able to thrive.
Suddenly, her steps halted, simply because she saw Wren and Zoya standing not far away.
The two seemed to be talking, and Wren’s gaze at Zoya, though seemingly calm, held a hint of tenderness.
Daphne was startled. Wren had never looked at other women with such a gaze. She wondered if he truly felt something for Zoya.
Suddenly, Wren’s hand reached out towards Zoya.
The next moment, Zoya abruptly clasped his hand. “What are you doing?”
“I just wanted to wipe the tear from your face,” Wren said.
Zoya was startled. She saw a handkerchief clutched in Wren’s hand.
“Sorry.” She released his hand. “I can wipe it myself.”
“Alright, then,” he said, opening his palm. The light blue handkerchief lay quietly in his palm.
Zoya had originally intended to simply wipe away the tear from her face with a tissue, but she didn’t have any on her. Then, Wren offered a handkerchief to her.
She could only take the handkerchief with a slight awkwardness and wiped away the tears from her face.
“Why are you crying?” Wren whispered in her ear, “Is it because they are your parents?”
“Isn’t that reason enough?” she retorted.
His eyelids gently lowered. “When my mother died, I didn’t shed a single tear. Even though she gave birth to me, I couldn’t
cry.
“Back then, some called me cold-blooded, others a monster. Do you also think I’m a cold-blooded monster?”
Zoya pursed her lips. If he were truly a cold-blooded monster, he wouldn’t have attended her parents’ funeral today.
“Was your mother not good to you?” she asked in return.
“She hated me, especially this face of mine. She hated it intensely.” His voice was calm as he spoke, as if he were just stating a

simple fact.
Zoya was somewhat stunned. She wondered what kind of mother could hate her child’s face intensely.
“What about you? Would you hate my face?” Wren asked.

Zoya froze for a moment, then saw Wren’s eyelashes tremble slightly as his beautiful eyes slowly lifted to meet hers.
His calm gaze, like a dead sea, showed not the slightest ripple.
But beneath that lifeless calm, a faint glimmer of hope seemed to stir.
Zoya felt an indescribable feeling welling up in her heart.
“No.” She pursed her lips. Wren’s face was exceptionally handsome. She felt that most women wouldn’t dislike it.
Hearing this, he smiled slightly.
This faint smile seemed to melt the lifelessness in his eyes, creating a captivating allure.
“Oh, here’s your handkerchief,” Zoya said, handing it back to him.
He took back the handkerchief. “Promise me you’ll never dislike my face.”
A flicker of doubt crossed her eyes, but she still replied, “Okay.”
She never disliked faces. She would only dislike people.
If she truly disliked someone, she wouldn’t even bother to glance at them or meet them, just like Nicolas.
“Then let’s do a pinky promise!” Wren said, actually extending his right hand and raising his little finger.
Zoya paused, looking at him with a hint of surprise.
She hadn’t expected that this man, who could shake the upper echelons of Ranard City with just a flick of his wrist, would use such a childish method to ask for a promise.
“What’s wrong?” Wren asked, seeing her silence.
“I just didn’t expect that you would do a pinky promise.” Zoya said.
“Because when I was a child, a little girl told me that a promise sealed with a pinky swear is valid for a hundred years, and if you don’t keep it, you’ll lose what you cherish most,” Wren said.
Zoya was quite surprised as she thought, ‘Does Wren really believe that?’
However, speaking of it, she also believed it when she was a child. Every time she pinky swore with others for a promise, she used the same line. She felt that it was such a coincidence that they believed the same thing.
She thought, ‘Did I also make a pinky promise with Wren when I was a child?’
