Everyone who had been chatting nearby looked over due to the crisp slap.
Jasmine covered her face, surprised and furious.

“Mr. Richmond, how could you do that.” Nicolas supported Jasmine, glaring at Wren. “Even if you think Jasmine said something wrong, you shouldn’t hit her in public!”
Wren lazily raised an eyebrow. “So, back then, when she wanted to inspect a martyr’s urn and even had airport security gang up on Zoya, why didn’t you say anything?
“Mr. Mayer, your standards are truly peculiar.”
Nicolas’s face flushed and then paled.
Lately, every time he recalled the airport incident, he was filled with intense regret.
If he had stopped Jasmine back then, perhaps things wouldn’t have escalated to this point.
Jasmine said, suppressing the pain in her cheek. “It was Zoya’s fault. If she had mentioned earlier that her parents were martyrs, this wouldn’t have happened.
“Mr. Richmond, my intention was solely for flight safety. Zoya deliberately framed me!”
Another crisp slap landed on Jasmine’s cheek.
If Nicolas hadn’t been supporting her, she likely would have fallen to the ground.
“Mr. Richmond, how could you repeatedly strike her!” Nicolas said angrily.
Wren, however, completely ignored Nicolas, looking coldly at Jasmine. “Do you say these things because you think I’m foolish enough to believe them?”
Jasmine’s cheeks were red and swollen, and her face was filled with humiliation.
She had specifically brought Nicolas to this party today, intending to show him that she could be of assistance.
However, to her surprise, she was publicly humiliated to such an extent, right at the start of the party.
Jasmine said indignantly, “Mr. Richmond, are you deliberately trying to protect Zoya? Am I wrong?
“If I had known those were martyrs’ ashes, I certainly wouldn’t have done that.
“Zoya had many opportunities to speak up but chose not to. What else could it be if not an attempt to frame me!”
Zoya spoke. “So, if they weren’t martyrs’ ashes, but those of an ordinary person, would you feel free to inspect them?” Jasmine choked.
Zoya stared coldly at the person before her. “Jasmine, you enjoy framing others, but don’t assume everyone else is just like
you!”
Jasmine looked even more embarrassed. Seeing everyone gathering around, she gritted her teeth and pushed her way through the crowd to find a place to hide.

Nicolas saw this and quickly followed her.
Zoya turned to Wren. Thank you.”
He was slightly taken aback. “I thought you’d blame me for stepping in.”
“I’m not so naive that I can’t tell who’s helping me,” Zoya said.

Wren, whom she had known for less than two months, was helping her, yet her ex-husband, married to her for three years, hadn’t said a single word in her defense when Jasmine slandered her.
Zoya found the reality quite ironic.
Afterward, the onlookers dispersed, and the party continued as usual.
At the party, Zoya also saw the Lucero family attending, including Daphne.
It made sense. The Lucero family was a prominent local family in Marabotara and one of the main groups involved in island development.
They would naturally attend today’s party.
“Zoya,” Laurence looked at her and greeted her kindly.
“Uncle Laurence,” Zoya replied.
“Are you Mr. Richmond’s companion today? What is your relationship with Mr. Richmond…” Laurence was curious about the relationship between Wren and Zoya.
“We are colleagues,” Zoya replied.
Strictly speaking, she was entrusted by the military region to temporarily serve as Wren’s bodyguard, so she believed they were indeed colleagues.
Wren glanced at Zoya but said nothing.
“Zoya, I have a few words I’d like to tell you privately,” Laurence said.
Zoya hesitated and looked at Wren beside her. She was responsible for Wren’s safety at today’s party, after all.
“Go ahead. The security system here at the party is very strict,” Wren said, which was also his way of telling Zoya that he would be fine.
“Alright, I’ll be back soon,” Zoya said, then walked with Laurence to a balcony in a corner of the party hall.
“Zoya, your great-grandfather isn’t feeling too well. If you have time, spend more time with him at the Lucero family,”
Laurence said.
Zoya was startled. “What happened to him?”
“As he’s gotten older, he naturally has some ailments. It might also be that your parents’ burial brought back many memories for him. His worry compounded, and his health deteriorated,” Laurence said.
“I will visit him as soon as I can,” Zoya said.
Laurence added, “Also, if you don’t have a suitable job right now, you can come work for the Lucero Group.

“I will arrange a suitable position for you. You are currently the only descendant of Abbott, and the company will always have a place for you.”
I’m not the only one from Abbott’s family. There is also my brother!” Zoya said firmly.
“But isn’t your brother already…”
“He’s just missing. He’s still alive, and I will definitely find him. I will also take him to visit our parents’ graves!” Zoya said.
Laurence gazed deeply at her. He saw that her gaze was filled with resolve and courage. Among her peers in the Lucero family, no other child possessed such a gaze.
He thought, ‘She truly is a descendant of Abbott!’
“Yes, your brother must still be alive!” Laurence mumbled, then hesitated and asked, “Is your relationship with Wren truly just work-related?”
“Currently, yes,” Zoya said. After three months, when the bodyguard assignment ended, that would no longer be the case. However, Laurence clearly misunderstood Zoya’s words. “Daphne and Wren have a close relationship. I don’t want you to fight over a man in the future!”
“Whatever Daphne’s relationship with Wren is, it has nothing to do with me!” Zoya said coolly.
Laurence wanted to say more but held back, finally cautioning, “Wren is a calculating person. Don’t get involved with him, or you’ll find it difficult to pull yourself away.”
After Laurence left, Zoya planned to return to Wren’s side.
But before she could step out of the balcony, Nicolas had already walked over.
He said, “Zoe, we need to talk!”
Zoya said with a cold expression, “Mr. Mayer, given our relationship, it seems you’re no longer suitable to call me Zoe. Please call me Ms. Lucero.”
Her coldness made Nicolas feel somewhat uncomfortable.
He pursed his lips, then seemed to pluck up the courage and said, “I want to apologize for what happened before.
“I didn’t know your parents were martyrs. If I had known earlier, I would have accompanied you to receive your parents’ ashes and stopped Jasmine at the airport!”
But his apology made Zoya’s eyes grow colder. “Nicolas, you and Jasmine are really the same kind of person. So, if my parents weren’t martyrs, you’d justifiably ignore and insult them?”
“If that’s all you want to say, then you can shut up. I’m done with this!” Zoya finished speaking and prepared to leave. Nicolas suddenly blocked her path.
“Tell me, why did you say those things to me at the airport? What did you mean by saving me after I was stabbed and fell into the river?” As he asked, his gaze fixed intensely on her.
