Reven’s Pov
I followed the scent as it took me outside the hall, but when I got there, it was gone.
Completely gone, as if it had never been there in the first place.
“What is happening to me?” I whispered under my breath, pressing my palm against the wall to steady myself.
My breathing came out uneven, and my heart thudded in my chest as confusion filled my head.
One minute the scent was all I could feel, calling me, burning inside me like wildfire… and now, it had vanished, leaving only emptiness.
I closed my eyes and rested my forehead against the cool wall. The night breeze brushed against my bare shoulders, calming me only a little.
My wolf had gone quiet, which was unusual. She had been raging moments ago, desperate and restless, but
now,
“Hey,” I whispered into the silence of my mind. What the hell was that?
No answer.
“Don’t you dare ignore me now,” I said in frustration, still keeping my voice low so no one passing by would hear me talking to myself. “You went all crazy in there, and now you’re silent?”
Still nothing.
I groaned softly, pushing away from the wall. “Ugh, you’re such an ass,” I muttered.
An actual wolf–shaped asshole, I thought bitterly as I straightened my dress.
She still didn’t respond. No growl, no whisper, nothing. Just complete silence, which was the most unnerving thing of all.
I wasn’t in the mood to go back inside the hall. Not yet. My nerves were still raw, and I felt… shaken, like something deep inside me had just shifted. I didn’t understand what had happened, and that scared me more than I wanted to admit.
The sound of laughter and music drifted faintly from the hall, mixed with the chatter of guests and the clinking of glasses.
The celebration was still going on, but I felt miles away from it, from all the noise and the joy.
A maid walked past me, carrying a tray of drinks and glasses into the hall. I caught her attention gently. “Hey,” I said softly. “Could I get a glass of water?”

She nodded quickly, placed the tray down on the small table beside the doorway, and handed me a glass. “Here you go, Luna.”
“Thank you,” I said, offering a faint smile.
The cool glass felt good in my hand. I took a small sip, hoping the water would help calm my pounding heart, but it didn’t. The uneasiness still sat heavily in my chest.
I tried to piece it all together the scent, the pull, my wolf’s strange reaction but none of it made sense. It was like trying to hold smoke in my hands.
I was still lost in my thoughts when a familiar deep voice broke through the silence behind me.
“What are you doing out here?”
I turned sharply, almost spilling my water. Derick stood just a few steps away, his dark brows slightly furrowed, concern flickering in his eyes.
“Derick,” I said quickly, trying to steady my tone. “I was just”
He came closer, his presence instantly grounding yet heavy. “I went to the restroom to check on you,” he said, his voice calm but laced with that quiet authority only an Alpha carried. “You weren’t there.”
“I… I just got out,” I lied smoothly, forcing a small smile. “It was a bit crowded inside, and I needed some fresh air.”
Derick studied me for a moment, as if trying to see through the words I wasn’t saying.
Then his features softened. He reached for my hand, his thumb brushing against my knuckles.
“I know you’re nervous,” he said gently. “But you’ll get over it soon, okay? I promise. You’ll be fine.”
I nodded, even though nervous wasn’t quite the right word for what I felt. Nervousness didn’t make your heart race like this. It didn’t make your wolf lose control.
“I know,” I murmured. “I just needed a moment.”
Derick squeezed my hand, his thumb tracing small circles against my skin. “Then take a deep breath,” he said softly, “and let’s go back inside. Everyone’s waiting.”
“Right,” I whispered.

Part of me wanted to tell him what had happened — the scent, the way my wolf had gone insane, the way it had vanished as suddenly as it came but I couldn’t. Not now.
Not when tonight was supposed to be perfect. Not when this night meant everything to him.
So I just nodded, forcing the unease down, and let him lead me back inside.
The hall felt louder than before music playing, people laughing, glasses clinking.

The chandeliers overhead sparkled like stars, and the crowd of wolves and guests seemed to blur together.
Derick’s hand was warm in mine as we made our way to our seats. I sat down beside him, my posture straight but my mind miles away. I tried to focus to stay present but my wolf still refused to speak.
She wasn’t gone; I could feel her. She was there, deep inside, brooding. Silent.
Something was wrong. I just didn’t know what.
Derick’s father, had just finished cutting his birthday cake. The crowd cheered as the old Alpha laughed and shared slices with a few visiting Alphas.
The music shifted to something slower as couples began to dance.
Derick rose from his chair after a while and pressed a quick kiss to my cheek. “Don’t move,” he whispered with a playful grin. “I have something planned.”
I smiled weakly, my heart skipping. “Should I be worried?”
He chuckled. “Only if surprises scare you.”
And with that, he walked to the stage.
The lights dimmed slightly, and the chatter died down as Derick took the microphone. His tall frame commanded attention effortlessly, and his deep, confident voice carried through the hall.
“Good evening, everyone,” he began, his smile proud yet warm.
“Thank you all for being here tonight to celebrate my father’s birthday and this special moment for our pack.”
There were cheers and whistles from the crowd.
Derick waited until they quieted again before continuing. “But tonight isn’t just about that,” he said, glancing in my direction. “I have a surprise for you all.”
My stomach tightened. I bit my lower lip nervously, suddenly very aware of every pair of eyes in the room.
He smiled faintly, the expression softening as he continued. “For years, I’ve searched for something… someone. Someone who understood me, who stood by me through everything, who challenged me and made me better.”
A few people chuckled softly, their gazes shifting toward me.
Derick’s eyes met mine across the room, steady and full of affection. “And I found her,” he said simply. “The perfect woman to be my Luna.”
My heart skipped. The room filled with low murmurs, smiles, and approving nods.
“For the past years we’ve been together,” Derick continued, “she’s been nothing but amazing. Loyal, strong, loving, and most importantly, she’s captured not only my heart but the hearts of this pack.”

A warmth spread in my chest, but underneath it, that same nervous tremor lingered, the one I couldn’t shake.
“And now,” he said, smiling wider, “I want to make her official. To both the pack and the world.”
He turned slightly, gesturing toward me. “Raven, my love. Come up here.”
The crowd clapped and cheered as I stood slowly from my seat.
My legs felt strangely heavy, but I managed to smile as I walked toward the stage.
