Chapter 274
REVEN’S POV
I woke up this morning feeling exhausted, like all the energy had been drained out of my body. My eyes felt heavy, my head was aching slightly, and my heart… it felt like someone had been pressing something heavy on it all night.
Maybe it was because of everything that has been happening lately. Maybe it was because I haven’t slept well in days.
Or maybe it was because my mind has been running in circles since Alpha Ethan reappeared in my life and refused to leave me and my kids alone.
I sat up slowly and rubbed my eyes with both hands, trying to force myself to wake up properly. The room was quiet. Too quiet. The kind of silence that made me think too much.
Why can’t Alpha Ethan let us be?
Why does he keep showing up out of nowhere?
Why is he trying to pull me back into the darkness I struggled to escape?
I sighed deeply and stood up from the bed. My legs felt weak for a moment, but I steadied myself. I grabbed my towel from the hanger and walked into the bathroom.
I twisted the shower knob, letting the warm water fall across my skin. It felt relaxing at first, but my thoughts refused to relax.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Alpha Ethan’s face. I leaned my head against the wet tiles, letting the water wash over me.
Why won’t he stop?
Why now?
Why after everything?
When I finished bathing, I wrapped myself in my towel and went back to my room to get dressed. I wore a simple gown and tied my hair loosely into a bun. I didn’t feel like looking fancy. I just wanted peace.
But peace never comes easy for me.
I walked quietly down the hallway toward the kitchen. My kids had already left for school. They barely said goodbye this morning because I was half–asleep, and honestly, I didn’t want them to see my worried face.
When I stepped into the kitchen, the maids looked up immediately. Three of them. One washing plates, one is cutting fruits, and the last is sweeping. They exchanged quick glances, clearly surprised to see me there.
“Luna Reven, please don’t stress yourself,” one of them said quickly “We will handle breakfast.”
I shook my head. “No. Let me do it today. Please.”
Another maid stepped forward. “Luna, it’s our work. You shouldn’t”
“If you don’t let me cook,” I said calmly, “I will tell Alpha Derick that you refused to assist me when I needed something.”
They all froze instantly, eyes wide.
I wasn’t trying to be mean, but I wasn’t in the mood to argue. I wanted to cook for him myself. Maybe it would help fix things. Maybe it would remind him that I still cared.
Without waiting for more protests, I moved toward the counter and began preparing the ingredients. The kitchen slowly filled with the warm smell of baking bread and freshly brewed coffee.
Derick loved coffee. Strong and slightly bitter. And he loved freshly baked bread in the morning with berries on the side.
I remembered all his favorites because I used to make them for him almost every day before things got messy between us.
As I worked, my mind drifted back to the past.
Back to when Derick and I were happy.
Back to when he used to hold me tightly at night, whispering that I was enough.
Back to when he would kiss my forehead before leaving for work.
Back to when nothing and no one was between us.
But now… it wasn’t the same.
Not after everything.
Not after his mistake.
Not after Alpha Ethan showed up again.
I swallowed hard and focused on the bread. I kneaded it properly and placed it into the oven. The warmth made the kitchen feel almost comforting. Almost.
“Should we help with anything?” one maid asked quietly.
“No,” I said softly. “I’m fine.”
After about an hour, I finished everything. The bread was soft and warm. The coffee smelled perfect. The berries were fresh. I arranged everything neatly on a tray.
I wiped my hands on a napkin, took a deep breath, and picked up the tray.
Time to face Derick.
I walked down the hallway, my heart beating faster with each step. I didn’t know why I was nervous. Maybe because I hadn’t seen him properly this morning.
Maybe because things between us were still shaky. Or maybe because I missed him more than I wanted to admit.
When I reached his room, I knocked softly.
“Come in,” his voice said from inside.
I opened the door slowly and stepped in. The room was filled with the soft sound of typing. Derick was sitting on the bed with his laptop on his laps, focused on his work.
His hair was slightly messy, and he looked tired. But gods… he still looked handsome.
When he looked up and saw me, his eyes widened a little.
“Reven… what are you doing here?”
I walked toward him and placed the tray on the small side table.
“I brought you breakfast,” I said softly. “Your favorite.”
He stared at the food for a moment, then closed his laptop and pushed it aside. He picked up the coffee first, inhaling gently.
“No matter how mad I am with you,” he said with a small smile, “I can’t ignore your food.”
I smiled a little too. “I know.”
He took a slow sip and sighed.
I sat beside him on the bed. My hands were shaking a little, but I controlled it.
“Derick,” I whispered, “I’m sorry.”
He looked at me slowly, his eyes softening.
“I want things to go back to the way they used to be,” I continued. “The kids are asking questions. And you… you should know I can never leave you for Alpha Ethan. Never. You and the kids are my family.”
I reached out and held his hand gently.
He sighed shakily and looked away for a moment before turning back to me.
“I’ve forgiven you, Reven,” he said quietly. “But forgetting… forgetting is the hard part.”
