Chapter 293
Reven’s POV
I sat on my bed as I thought about what Alpha Ethan told me and the pain in his eyes when he said he wanted his second chance, mate, so badly.
My chest tightened again. It felt like someone pushed a heavy stone inside my heart and left it there.
I felt guilty, painfully guilty, knowing I was the one he had been searching for all this time, but I refused to tell him.
My wolf suddenly spoke in my head, her voice gentle but firm, “You should just let go and accept him. After all, he is the father of your kids.”
I breathed out slowly, frustrated.
“It’s not that easy,” I whispered back.
Every time I closed my eyes, the memories came back the shouting, the cold punishments, the threats, the way he treated me like nothing.
I still woke up some nights crying, shaking, and sweating. I still felt nervous when a door opened too fast. I still had nightmares of him. Nightmares of the Alpha Ethan from before.
“How can I forget everything overnight?” I asked my wolf, almost angrily.
She sighed deeply in my mind. “I know you are hurt. I know you don’t trust easily. But he has changed… or at least, he is trying.
And you know you still feel something for him. You know your heart beats fast when he is close. You know you still love him.”
“I don’t know,” I said, rubbing my forehead.
Because honestly… I didn’t know.
Did he love me now?
Or was he keeping me here only because of the children?
Every time he looked at them, something changed in his eyes. Something softer.
Something warmer. Something he never used to show.
But what about me?
Did he love me?
Or did he love the idea of having a complete family?
Just then, a light knock interrupted my thoughts.
I looked at the door. “Come in,” I said softly.
A maid walked in. The same one who had been helping me since I returned to the pack house. She was young, quiet, and kind. She bowed a little.
I frowned. “Please, don’t bow for me,” I told her. “You don’t need to do that.”
She nodded shyly.
I lifted my hands slightly. “Can you help me with my nails? They’re getting too long. It’s risky… I don’t want to scratch the kids by mistake.”
“Yes, Luna… I mean, Reven,” she said, quickly correcting herself, and she pulled a small chair close, sitting in front of me.
She began working on my nails carefully. For a while, the room was silent except for the small clicking sound of the nail file.
Then she lifted her head slowly.
“Um… Reven, have you heard the rumor?” she asked politely.
I shook my head. “What rumor?”
The maid looked nervous. “They said Alpha Ethan’s second chance mate came today.”
I shot up immediately.
“What?”
The maid jumped a little from shock. “Are you okay, ma’am?”
I swallowed hard, trying to calm my heartbeat. “I I’m fine.
But how is that even possible? He is my mate.
How can he have another mate?”
My hands were shaking slightly as I tried to process everything.
“No,” I said, more to myself than to her. “This can’t be real.
Maybe the person is lying… maybe she is pretending to be his mate just to get access to something or someone.”
My voice trembled with worry and anger.
I leaned forward. “What did Alpha Ethan do about it?”

The maid lowered her eyes. “Alpha Ethan asked the guards to keep her inside the pack house. It seems… it seems like he might accept her.”
I shook my head immediately.
“No. No. No!”
My wolf growled loudly inside me.
“I told you to accept him,” she snapped. “I told you to fix this before someone else stepped in. But you are too strong–headed. Now see what is happening.”
Tears gathered in my eyes.
“This can’t be happening,” I whispered.
My wolf continued, her voice filled with worry.
“Alpha Ethan can’t tell she is not his mate because his wolf is silent.
He can’t feel anything. He can’t sense anything. He is blind without the bond.”
I felt my breath shaking as fear rushed through me.
This wasn’t just a rumor.
This was a danger.
Because if Ethan accepted another woman… everything would be gone.
The family.
Everything.
“Stop,” I said suddenly, pulling my hand away.
The maid blinked. “But I’m not done.”“Leave,” I said quickly. “Please. Close the door behind you. I need time alone.”
She stood slowly, packed the nail tools, and left, closing the door quietly.
The moment she was gone, I stood up and began pacing the room.
