Mated To The Alpha King (Raven and Ethan) novel Chapter 306

**Chapter 306**

**Alpha Ethan’s POV**

Twenty-five vouchers.

With a sigh, I reached for my phone, dialing the office line as I leaned against the steering wheel of my car. My gaze drifted to the disheveled files sprawled across my desk, a chaotic reminder of the day’s demands.

“Good day, sir,” my secretary’s voice came through the speaker, calm and collected, as always.

“I won’t be able to make it to the meeting in person today,” I informed her, my tone clipped and professional. “We’ll conduct it online instead.”

There was a brief silence on the other end, a moment where I could almost hear her processing the change. “Understood, Alpha. I will notify the rest of the staff and make the necessary arrangements.”

“Good,” I replied curtly before ending the call, the line going silent as I placed the phone back on my desk.

Leaning back in my chair, I rubbed my temples, feeling the tension build as my thoughts drifted to Reven.

I had promised myself I would check on her today.

I was acutely aware of the sickness that had plagued her earlier, the way her steps had faltered, the tremor in her voice as she spoke. It was all so out of character for her, and I knew it wasn’t just a simple ailment.

But time was a luxury I couldn’t afford right now.

The pack needed my leadership. This meeting was crucial, and the top client we were dealing with was not someone I could afford to let down.

“I’ll check on her after,” I muttered to myself, the words feeling hollow and insincere.

Shaking off the guilt, I opened my laptop, my fingers dancing over the keys as I connected to the meeting room. The screen gradually filled with familiar faces: staff members, new hires, elders, and department heads.

Their gazes were all fixed on me, waiting for me to begin.

“Good day,” I announced, my voice steady and authoritative. “You were chosen to serve this company because of your discipline, loyalty, and strength…”

As I spoke, a tightness gripped my chest, a nagging instinct urging me to pay attention to something deeper.

I brushed it aside.

I laid down the rules: respect, confidentiality, obedience, and loyalty. I reminded them of the consequences of failure, the expectations that came with their roles, and the honor we upheld as a pack. They listened intently, nodding in agreement, absorbing my every word.

Then came the second phase of the meeting—the part that truly mattered.

The top client.

The screen flickered, and a new face appeared—a powerful ally, a wealthy investor whose backing was vital for our future.

In that moment, business became my armor.

Numbers. Agreements. Contracts. Lands.

My focus narrowed to strategy and precision, the world outside fading away.

Until…

The door swung open.

No knock. No warning.

I sensed the shift in the atmosphere before I even turned to look.

The air grew heavy, the temperature in the room plummeted.

My eyes abandoned the screen, and there she stood.

Reven.

Her hair was a mess, her breath uneven, and her eyes… they were ablaze.

Not with tears.

With fury.

“Tell your mate to stay away from my children,” she declared, her voice slicing through the silence like a knife.

The words reverberated in the room, and the faces on the laptop screen froze in shock.

I stood up halfway, my frustration boiling over. “Reven,” I snapped, gesturing towards the laptop. “I’m in the middle of a meeting. You need to wait.”

She remained rooted in place.

Her fists were clenched, her chest heaving as if she had just sprinted a marathon.

The silence from the call was palpable, a weight pressing down on me as I felt my staff’s eyes on us, taking in every detail.

“This is important,” I warned her in a lower tone, trying to regain control of the situation.

For just a fleeting moment, her gaze flicked to the screen before snapping back to me.

Then she took a step back, but the tension remained thick in the air.

I turned my attention back to the meeting, forcing myself to finish the discussion with the client while the tension crawled down my spine. One by one, the faces disappeared as I ended the call.

I shut the laptop with a decisive click.

Silence enveloped us.

I turned slowly to face her, my heart racing.

“What did you mean by that outburst?” I asked, striving to keep my voice steady. “What do you mean, ‘stay away from your children?’”

She let out a short, humorless laugh.

“When I told you that Vera was up to something, you didn’t believe me.”

I crossed my arms, standing firm. “Because you had no evidence.”

Her laugh turned harsh, a sound that sent a chill through me.

“Now she’s plotting to take one of my children,” she said, her voice trembling not with fear but with unbridled rage. “And I refuse to let that happen.”

I rolled my chair closer, lowering my voice. “You need to calm down.”

At my words, she stiffened, as if I had struck her.

“Don’t ask me if I’m okay,” she shot back. “I’m fine.”

I studied her intently. Her face was pale beneath the anger, her lips dry and cracked. I could see her hands trembling ever so slightly.

“The sickness you had earlier,” I said quietly, concern creeping into my voice. “Is it clouding your judgment?”

Her eyes widened in disbelief.
