Jessica was silent for a long time.
She took a deep breath. "So, if I give up the fight for custody, I can request to have her every weekend, and during that time, she can stay with me and I can take her wherever I want?"
"Yes," Dennis confirmed. "If you agree to my proposal, you can leave the rest to me. Your soon-to-be ex-husband will receive the official notice shortly."
Jessica didn't answer right away. Dennis knew it was cruel to ask a mother to give up her child, but he wasn't a savior or a philanthropist. He was a lawyer. His job was to win. He would do whatever it took to maximize his chances, regardless of anything else.
Seeing her struggle, he added, "Of course, I can't force you. This is just my recommendation. If you disagree, tell me. I will fight the case according to your wishes, but the outcome will likely be unfavorable. To be blunt, we would probably lose. Losing a case is one thing, but if you compromise on your financial rights to fight for custody and then lose, you'll end up with neither."
He glanced at his watch. "Think about it. Call me before ten tonight with your decision."
"Thank you, Mr. Thompson," Jessica nodded.
They left the coffee shop together.
"Jessica Brown!"
