Jessica glanced at him hesitantly.
"Pro bono, of course," Dennis added with a smile.
"Please, don't worry," she said, embarrassed. "As soon as I get my settlement, I'll pay your legal fees."
"A rule is a rule," he replied gently. "I said it would be pro bono, and it will be. If I took your money now, I'd be damaging my own reputation."
"So, what happens next?" she asked.
"This afternoon, I'll file a response with the court on your behalf. Just keep your phone on. You might get a call from them."
"Okay," Jessica nodded.
With that matter settled, Dennis leaned forward. "Now, about the answer I was waiting for. Did you bring it for me today?"
Jessica nodded, her gaze dropping to the table. "I've thought about it a lot," she said, her voice soft. "I can agree to give up custody of my daughter. But I want visitation rights twice a week, and on those days, she stays with me."
Dennis nodded. "Alright. I can make that happen."
Jessica thanked him again and again.
