On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 130

Amy shook her head. "I don't miss Mommy. Don't call her."

Susan frowned. "Have you forgotten how good Mommy was to you?"

Amy fidgeted with her hands. "Great-grandma, I don't like having a mommy who's crazy. Yesterday, one of my classmates made fun of me again because my mommy is sick in the head. It was so embarrassing. From now on, when we're outside, can I just say Mom Catherine is my mom, and Jessica Brown is only my mom at home?"

Susan's heart ached for Amy, but even more for Jessica. Jessica had been in labor for a day and a night, enduring immense pain to bring her daughter into the world. Now, after only being away for half a year, her child didn't even recognize her. Was this all the time they were fated to have as mother and daughter?

Amy ran outside to play.

With tears in her eyes, Susan turned to her longtime companion, Karen. "Should I have just let them get divorced? Maybe the Smith family and Jessica just aren't meant to be."

Karen quickly handed her a tissue. "Susan, please don't be sad. Even if they do divorce, you've watched Mrs. Smith grow up. She will always see you as her own grandmother."

After a long, conflicted silence, Susan shared a secret she had held deep inside. "You know, when Brandon Smith was dying, he held my hand and told me that no matter what happened, I must never let them divorce. I always felt there was a deeper meaning to his words."

Karen, who had served the Smith family for decades, replied thoughtfully, "Perhaps it was simply because Mr. Brandon was so fond of Mrs. Smith. He treated her even better than he treated Lance."
