On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 153

George sneered. “My grandfather is just trying to make me submit.”

Frank frowned. “You know what they say, discretion is the better part of valor. Just give in for now. You can figure out the rest once you’ve healed.”

George changed the subject. “What’s the company business?”

“First, the collaboration with the Smith Group has been terminated,” Frank reported. “Second, one of our ongoing projects is being audited by the health department. And third, the proposal for the overseas chip contract is ready.”

George took a deep breath, lying flat on his stomach and staring straight ahead. “You handle it.”

“Yes, sir,” Frank said.

“And one more thing,” George added. “Go to Willowbrook Gardens and find Jessica Brown. Let her know I’m okay. They’ve taken my phone.”

Frank nodded, but he didn’t move to leave.

George raised an eyebrow. “Did my grandfather send you here to persuade me?”

“No, sir, not at all,” Frank said quickly. “I haven’t seen Arthur. It’s just… with all due respect, Ms. Brown is still a married woman. Lance Smith is still her husband, and the Brown family is still her family. Aren’t you getting a little too involved? Arthur’s anger is understandable. You’re entangled with a married woman, you’ve fought for her multiple times, and you nearly killed a man. If word of this gets out, the George family will be targeted. It could be a devastating blow to the Group, especially since we just expanded overseas last year. The stock can’t handle a major shock right now. Arthur’s concerns are valid.”

“Are you finished?” George asked flatly.

Frank blinked and nodded.

“Good,” George said, gesturing toward the door. “Then you can go. Don’t let me keep you.”

“I think that’s changed,” Frank said. “As I was leaving, Arthur had Bryan catch up to me. He said I should have some of George’s friends come by and try to talk some sense into him. I think it was a roundabout way of saying he wants you to treat the wounds. He didn’t expect George to be this stubborn, but he’s already made his decree and can’t go back on his word.”

“That explains why George keeps you around,” Nathan said. “Alright, I understand.”

After thanking him profusely, Frank hung up and drove to Willowbrook Gardens. The apartment was empty. He scribbled a quick note and slid it under the door before leaving.

Three days later, Jessica was once again strapped to a surgical table.

Patricia Allen looked down at her, her expression pained. “Jessica, I’m doing this for your own good, and for Amy’s. Please don’t hate me.”

Jessica clenched her jaw so tightly it ached, wishing she could destroy everything and everyone in the room. The procedure began, and she could feel the cold, sterile instruments invading her body. She felt the moment the embryo was transferred, a sharp, violating pain that went far deeper than her body, piercing her already shattered heart.
