On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 181

Jessica Brown breathed a sigh of relief.

“What kind of woman is Mr. George into?” she asked, testing the waters.

Nathan White looked on, clearly enjoying the show.

George stared down into his soup. “What do you mean?”

Jessica decided to be blunt. “Do you think Mr. George would ever go for someone like Rebecca Jones?”

“Pfft!” Nathan couldn’t help but snort with laughter.

Ignoring George’s murderous glare, he grinned. “What’s this? Are you trying to set Mr. George up?”

Jessica nodded awkwardly.

George slowly set down his spoon.

Nathan’s curiosity was piqued. “You don’t even know the man, and you’re trying to hook your friend up with him? Mr. George hasn’t been seen in public for years. You’ve lived at The Kensington for two decades and never laid eyes on him. For all you know, he could be some hideous monster. Aren’t you afraid of ruining your friend’s life?”

The temperature in the room seemed to drop a few degrees.

Jessica rubbed her arms. “It can’t be that bad…”

“Why not?” Nathan said, dead serious. “You can’t just throw your friend to the wolves because the George family is rich. You know nothing about him. What if he’s some kind of psycho?”

Jessica glanced uncertainly at George. “I doubt that.”

“He’s right,” George said, nodding. “Don’t listen to his nonsense.”

“Oh yeah?” Nathan challenged. “You’ve met him. Why don’t you tell us what Mr. George is really like?”

George’s sharp lips parted. With a sidelong glance at Nathan, he said in a low, gravelly voice, “He’s a good man.”

Nathan was speechless.

George paused for a moment before adding, “And he’s not interested in Rebecca Jones.”

“Oh,” Jessica said, realization dawning on her. “Well, okay then. I was just throwing it out there. Don’t mention it to him.”

Jessica rushed out without another word.

George frowned and dialed Frank Ward.

Upstairs, Jessica reached the hospital room and knocked.

“Come in,” Catherine Brown’s voice called from inside.

Jessica paused for a beat before pushing the door open and stepping in.

Amy glared at her. “You haven’t been home in forever. Were you out doing something bad? The staff are all whispering that you’re cheating on Dad.”

“Amy, what are you talking about?” Lance snapped, his voice sharp.

It was the first time her father had ever spoken to her so harshly. Amy’s face crumpled, and she burst into tears with a wail.

Catherine immediately wrapped her in a hug, shooting Lance a reproachful look. “Why are you yelling at her? The poor girl is sick and miserable. What’s wrong with you?”
