On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 186

The soft light of the room cast a warm glow on her cheeks, making even the fine hairs on her face shimmer. It was a sight that could make anyone’s heart soften.

Lance was stunned. He hadn’t seen Jessica smile like that in a very, very long time. For the past two years, her expressions had been a cycle of hysterical outbursts, cold smirks, and mocking sneers—never a genuine, happy smile.

Who was she talking to? Who could make her light up like that? What had the person on the other end of the line said? The questions swirled in his mind, instantly killing his appetite. He quietly put down his fork and watched as she murmured a few more words before hanging up.

“Who were you on the phone with?” Lance asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

“I have to step out for a bit,” Jessica said simply. “Call me if you need anything.”

A nagging feeling told him she was going to meet the person from the call. He was almost certain it was a man—probably that bodyguard. A vine of something dark and twisted began to grow in the pit of his stomach, coiling around his emotions and threatening to make him lose control.

Just as Jessica reached the door, he shot up and blocked her path, his voice tight with anger. “Your daughter is in the hospital, and you’re running off to be with another man?”

Jessica looked at him as if he were an idiot. “What? If you can’t handle taking care of our child, we can always revisit the custody arrangement.”

She pushed past him and walked out of the room.

Lance stared at her retreating back, his hands slowly, unnaturally, clenching into fists.

Back in George’s room, Nathan saw Jessica enter and quickly stood up. “I’m heading out for my shift.” He nodded at Jessica as he passed her.

Jessica looked at the untouched food on the small table. “Why haven’t you eaten?”

“I’m about to,” George said, picking up his fork.

Jessica sat in the chair by the bed just as her phone rang again. It was Rebecca.

“...Alright,” Jessica relented.

They walked out of the hospital together and waited by the entrance for Rebecca and Lillian Clark.

The moment Lillian saw Jessica, she rushed forward and threw her arms around her. “Jessica, Isabella Charles is a monster, Catherine Brown is even worse, and Willie is a complete animal! I’m divorcing him!”

Lillian was sobbing, her whole body trembling.

Jessica gently patted her back. “Lillian, slow down. Tell me what happened.”

Lillian explained that Isabella had brought her own niece to stay with them and had orchestrated a situation where the niece and Willie ended up in bed together, ensuring Lillian would catch them. Willie’s excuse was that since Lillian couldn’t have children, he was just using the other woman to produce an heir, and the child would be considered Lillian’s once it was born.

“Isabella has had it out for me ever since I stood up to her,” Lillian choked out between sobs. “She and her mother want to control every man in the Brown family. Jessica, they’re devils.”
