On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 187

Jessica gasped. Willie Brown and Lillian Clark had grown up together. After years of dating, they had married with their families’ blessing. Their only regret was that after a decade of marriage, they remained childless.

But Jessica remembered Willie saying just two Christmases ago that if they were fated not to have children, then so be it. They would just support each other into old age. At the time, even though Jessica was already on bad terms with her brothers because of Catherine and her mother, she had felt a deep admiration for Willie’s words. She had always thought of them as the perfect picture of love.

Who could have imagined that Willie would cheat?

“Lillian, what are you going to do?” Jessica asked, taking her hand.

Lillian took a deep, shuddering breath. She was still in a daze, clearly not over the shock, but her voice was firm when she spoke. “One betrayal is enough. I’m divorcing him. But I need a top-notch lawyer. Now that he’s sided with Isabella, she’ll back him all the way.”

She covered her face with her hands. “It’s going to be tough, but I’ll do everything I can. I can’t face a man who’s been tainted like that. I can’t live peacefully with a husband who’s slept with another woman. The very thought of it makes me sick.”

As she spoke, Lillian suddenly gagged.

“Lillian, come sit over here,” Jessica said, quickly guiding her to a bench.

Lillian had never felt like this before. Her stomach was churning violently, a sour taste rising in her throat. She instinctively covered her mouth. Rebecca quickly handed her a bottle of water to rinse her mouth with.

After a moment, Lillian looked at Jessica apologetically. “I guess the thought just made me nauseous. Jessica, thank you for being here to listen to me.”

Jessica shook her head. “Lillian, you probably don't have a place to stay right now. If you don't mind, you can stay at my place in Willowbrook Gardens for a while.”

Rebecca looked at the three of them and sighed. “What’s there to thank me for? We’re all in the same boat. When you’re this down on your luck, you help who you can.”

Jessica watched the car drive away. She stood under the moonlight, her slender frame looking almost translucent, the bones of her spine sharply defined.

Her phone rang. It was Dennis Thompson.

“Ms. Brown,” he said, “I heard Lance Smith has agreed to the divorce. Does that mean you no longer require my services?”

Jessica’s mind immediately went to Lillian. It felt audacious to ask, but she had to try. “Mr. Thompson,” she began hesitantly, “thank you so much for everything you’ve done. It’s true, my case with Lance won’t be going to court. But… Mr. Thompson, would you be willing to help a friend of mine with her divorce case?”
