On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 202

Nathan barged right in.

A moment later, George emerged wearing only his trousers, a brutal network of crisscrossing wounds covering his back.

Nathan scolded them angrily. “Did either of you listen to a word I said?”

Jessica knew she was at fault.

George, however, looked completely unconcerned.

Nathan pointed at Jessica. “Go get a bowl of warm water and a cloth to wash his back.”

Jessica quickly went to do as he asked.

“I don’t need it,” George grumbled.

Nathan grabbed George’s arm and pulled him toward the hospital bed. “What’s your problem?”

“I’m taking a shower.”

Nathan scowled. “The wounds can’t get wet.”

“Will it kill me?”

“It’ll get infected.”

Jessica returned with a basin of water, a fresh towel draped over the side. As she approached, George immediately refused. “No, thank you.”

She looked helplessly at Nathan.

“Don’t mind him,” Nathan said dismissively. “Go ahead and clean it.”

Jessica soaked the towel and wrung it out, her eyes darting between George and Nathan, completely at a loss.

George snatched the towel from her and tossed it at Nathan. “You do it.”

Nathan pointed at his own nose in disbelief. “Me?”

George didn’t answer, instead turning to Jessica. “You can go. Get back to what you were doing.”

Looking as if she’d been granted a pardon, Jessica fled. “I’ll go check on Lillian.”

Nathan began cleaning George’s back with a long-suffering sigh. “This was a perfect opportunity, you know. Build some intimacy, get a little physical contact.”

Jessica nodded.

“Wow, a bodyguard who’s that handsome,” Lillian mused. “If only he weren’t a bodyguard, you two could be together…”

Jessica let out a small, wry laugh. “If he were some powerful CEO, he wouldn’t look twice at me.”

Lillian shook her head, taking Jessica’s hand. “A man like Lance Smith… that man is blind, mistaking gravel for a gem. He’ll regret it one day.”

Jessica smiled but didn’t respond.

“I owe you so much for this,” Lillian continued. “I don’t know how I can ever thank you.”

“Don’t say that,” Jessica said, shaking her head. “My mother adored you when she was alive. She was already sick when she was helping plan your wedding, but she was so happy. It even seemed to make her feel better.”

Lillian looked at Jessica with heartache. “If she were still here, no one in the Brown family would dare bully you like this.” She saw how Jessica, once a bright, precious pearl, had been ground down into a sharp-edged piece of sand. “Elizabeth must be beside herself in heaven,” Lillian thought with a sigh.

Jessica smiled faintly. “It’s okay. Everything that happens is part of a plan. As long as I don’t give up, I’ll get through it. You too, Lillian. Thirty-five is a woman’s prime.”

Lillian’s expression filled with renewed confidence. “You’re right.” Then she lowered her voice. “I heard Willie Brown plans to come back and take over The Brown Group. But your mother is the one who built that company into what it is today. Jessica, The Brown Group should be yours.”
