Catherine looked at her mother, a new resolve hardening in her eyes. “Tell me what to do.”
Isabella beckoned her closer, and Catherine leaned in to listen as her mother whispered her plan. Catherine nodded repeatedly, her expression growing more determined.
It was evening by the time Catherine left the house. She ran into Melissa Gates in The Kensington. Melissa looked terrible, her face gaunt and exhausted.
A flicker of disdain crossed Catherine’s face before she masked it with a concerned smile. “Melissa, it’s been so long. How have you been?”
Melissa shook her head wearily. “My brother found out about the story I leaked online. My parents flew back from abroad to yell at me for meddling. My aunt’s family also caused a scene at our house because of Lawrence Harris. All the projects we got through my uncle are about to fall through.”
Catherine feigned shock. “How could this have happened?”
Melissa’s eyes welled with tears. “I never should have gone up against Jessica Brown. I don’t know who’s backing her. It’s like she’s untouchable.”
A complicated emotion flickered in Catherine’s eyes. “If I had known, I would have tried harder to stop you.”
“It’s too late for that,” Melissa said, shaking her head. “Catherine, I know you’re a good person. I don’t regret not listening to you. I truly despise Jessica Brown. I wish she would just die.”
“I’m so sorry you’re going through this,” Catherine said, her voice filled with false sympathy. “You’ve gotten so thin.”
Melissa grabbed Catherine’s arm. “Are you free in a few days? I’m getting married. Will you be my bridesmaid?”
Catherine was stunned. “Married? To whom?”
Melissa nodded forcefully.
After they parted ways, Catherine got into her car and immediately sprayed air freshener all around her. Hugging someone like Melissa felt disgusting.

StreamSphere Offices.
Jessica and Rebecca arrived at the office and met the owner, Samuel Lewis. The place was in a state of disarray.
Rebecca introduced herself, and Samuel quickly stood up. “I know who you are. My VP told me you two go way back.”
