On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 245

Just as Jessica had said, the flavor wasn't extraordinary, but George finished every last bite.

“I’ve recommended this place to so many people, and no one ever likes it,” Jessica said with a laugh. “I think I only love it because it reminds me of my mom. Coming here feels like stepping back in time to when we used to come together. You’re the first person I’ve brought here who actually finished their bowl.” Even her father, Gabriel, who had doted on her, had lost all interest after a single taste.

“It’s very good,” George said sincerely. “Next time you’re craving it, I’ll come with you.”

Jessica smiled. “Okay.”

After paying, they walked back to the car. As they got in, Jessica noticed a box of medicine on the center console. She reached for it, but George snatched it away before she could.

“I saw that,” she said, her eyes fixed on him. “It’s allergy medicine. Is it for you?”

“No,” he said, his brow furrowing.

But Jessica wasn’t an idiot. She thought about how he had suddenly left the restaurant and how he’d seemed surprised that the Shrimpettes didn't contain actual shrimp.

The realization hit her. “You’re allergic to seafood, aren’t you?”

He shook his head.

“Don’t lie to me.”

After a moment of hesitation, he finally gave a slow nod. “Yes.”

Jessica was stunned into silence. A man with a seafood allergy was willing to take medication just to eat what he thought was a seafood dish with her. She pressed her lips together, her heart fluttering.

George started the car. “I’m traveling with Mr. George this weekend. We’ll be gone for about a week.”

“Get out of the way,” Jessica snapped.

“My, my. It’s been a while, but you’re as charming as ever,” Catherine retorted.

“It depends on the company. Some people just don’t improve with time.”

“You—” Catherine bit back a sharp reply, remembering her purpose for being there. She pulled a lavish, crimson invitation from her purse and held it out to Jessica with one hand. “This is for Willie and Sarah’s wedding. Willie didn’t want to invite you, but my mother insisted. She thought it would look bad if you didn’t come, as if our family had disowned you. So you can thank my mother for this.”

Jessica didn’t take it.

Catherine smiled and tucked it into Jessica’s hand. “Regardless of what happened, you were the one who broke up his marriage. The least you can do is witness his new one.”
