Jessica let out a humorless laugh. “Forcing your own niece to have a baby for a married man—only an animal would come up with a plan like that. You and your mother are worse than animals. And for the record, Willie ruined his own marriage. You two were just his biggest accomplices.”
With that, she pushed past Catherine and walked into the building. Catherine turned, a thoughtful expression on her face as she watched Jessica’s retreating back.
After the incident at the hotel, Lance had been avoiding her. It had taken a long night of convincing, swearing that nothing had happened and even pretending to go on a few dates with other men, to finally mend things between them. But the experience taught her something crucial: Lance didn’t want to divorce Jessica. He wanted her back.
Catherine couldn’t let that happen. Willie’s wedding would be the perfect opportunity to make Lance give up on Jessica for good. She could hardly wait.
Back in her car, Catherine called Lance. “Lance, how about I pick up Amy today?”
“Okay,” he agreed.
“And I’ll take her out for dinner before bringing her home?”
“Sounds good,” he said without hesitation.
“Great! I’ll let you get back to work then,” Catherine chirped, her face lit up with a triumphant smile.
After hanging up, she hummed a cheerful tune, ready to head to her studio. But as she was about to pull away, she glanced at the StreamSphere sign. An idea sparked. Instead of going to her studio, she drove to Melissa Gates’s house.
If she remembered correctly, Melissa’s new husband owned a live-streaming company. She had looked into it before. AuraLive was one of the top players in the industry, leagues above a small startup like StreamSphere.
“You’re too sweet! I knew you were thinking of me,” Melissa gushed, pulling Catherine inside.
Catherine handed her a delicate bracelet.
“Oh, I love it!” Melissa exclaimed.
“It looks like married life suits you,” Catherine observed with a smile.
Melissa sighed. “It’s alright, I guess. Jerry won’t let me go out much lately. He’s worried I’ll stir up trouble. I’ve been so bored, I was thrilled to see you.”
