On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 247

“I really am sorry I missed your wedding. We’re such good friends, and I feel terrible,” Catherine said, sitting down. “This is just a little something to make up for it.”

“Don’t be silly,” Melissa replied. “I know you would’ve been there if you could. How have you been? I haven’t heard from you lately.”

Catherine let out a deep, theatrical sigh.

“What is it?” Melissa asked, instantly concerned. “Are you in some kind of trouble?”

Catherine gave her a helpless look, saying nothing, which said everything.

“It’s Jessica Brown again, isn’t it?” Melissa guessed, her tone hardening.

“Let’s not talk about it,” Catherine said with a sad smile. “There’s no point getting worked up over people we can’t do anything about.”

Melissa’s fists clenched. “I might not have been able to touch her before I was married, but that doesn’t mean I can’t now.”

A dark glint flashed in Catherine’s eyes. “You know she and Rebecca Jones started that live-streaming company, right? Their sales figures are surprisingly good.”

Melissa’s face lit up. “Catherine, you’re forgetting who Jerry is! We have a live-streaming company too, and it’s the biggest in the country.”

Catherine nodded, patting Melissa’s hand. “I know, but what can you do? You just got married, and I don’t want to cause problems for you. Besides, the only way to crush her is to poach her streamers and her customers, and that’s not exactly subtle.”

Catherine didn’t answer.

“That woman has no shame!” Melissa fumed. “Everyone knows she only got to marry Lance because his grandfather was on his deathbed and needed a wedding to ‘bring good fortune’ and ward off his illness. That was her only chance. If not for that, Mr. Smith would have waited for you. Jessica just got lucky. Now that you’re back, you’re his true love. If she had any decency, she’d step aside gracefully.”

Melissa gritted her teeth. “Why won’t she just disappear? Did you know my brother used to be in love with her?”

Catherine had heard rumors.

“He adored her growing up,” Melissa rambled on, “but her brothers were close with Lance, so she was always around him. My brother just watched from afar. When they got older, he saw how she only had eyes for Lance and finally gave up. Do you know why my sister-in-law hates Jessica? Because one night, my brother came home drunk, grabbed her hand, and called her Jessica!”
