On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 275

“So what are you going to do?” Rebecca asked, swallowing hard. “Are you going to cut him off completely?”

Jessica didn’t answer. Not because she didn’t want to, but because she didn’t know. She was terrified to admit how much she had come to rely on his presence, how she had grown accustomed to him appearing like a savior every time she was in danger, offering a sense of security she’d never known. And he did it all so willingly, never once asking for anything in return.

After a long silence, she shook her head honestly. “I don’t know.”

Just then, her phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, she hesitated for a few seconds before finally answering just as it was about to go to voicemail. “George.”

Rebecca immediately clamped her mouth shut.

George’s low, rumbling voice came through the phone. “You’re not at Willowbrook Gardens?”

“No,” she said. “I’m with Rebecca at her hotel. I’m staying here tonight.”

“Alright,” he said. “Are you coming back tomorrow?”

“Yes, in the evening. I still owe you that dinner I promised. How about tomorrow night?”

“Okay,” he agreed.

After she hung up, Rebecca asked tentatively, “What are you… planning to do tomorrow?”

Jessica stood up and walked toward the guest bedroom with a light, almost breezy wave. “It’ll be fine.”

Rebecca bit her lip, the guilt still weighing heavily on her.

“I’m not. I told you, as far as I’m concerned, I never had a daughter.”

Lance’s hand shot up as if to strike her.

“What, you’re going to hit me now?” she sneered.

He dropped his hand, shaking his head. “No. Jessica, Amy has been excited about her birthday for months. Every year, you bake her cake. She loves it. Her friends love it. Whatever issues we have, let’s not drag our child into it. Can’t we just let her have a happy fifth birthday?”

Jessica jabbed a finger into his chest. “Happy? How? I gave birth to a child who betrayed me, and now you want me to just pretend everything is fine?”

“It’s not like that,” he argued. “She’s a child. She doesn’t know any better. She gravitates toward whoever spends the most time with her. If you want to fix your relationship with her, you should be looking for opportunities to be with her, not pushing her away.”
