On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 274

“I’m fine,” Jessica sighed.

Rebecca’s temper flared. “Don’t you dare hide things from me! Do you look fine? You think I didn’t see you chugging that wine? Were you trying to get drunk? Hoping it would solve all your problems?”

Jessica rubbed her thumb over her fingers, her voice barely a whisper. “George… is Anthony George.”

Rebecca’s head snapped up.

Jessica mistook her reaction for shock. “Surprising, right? I was just as stunned when I found out…”

“It’s not…”

“Arthur George came to the hospital to see me today.”

“He what? What did he want? Did he hurt you?”

“No, nothing like that. Lance went to him and told him Anthony was my lover.”

“That damn Lance Smith! If he hadn’t bailed on signing the divorce papers, you’d be a free woman right now. Who you’re with would be your business. That bastard!”

“But I think Arthur has a point,” Jessica said quietly. “If George were just a bodyguard, we could be friends. But since he’s Mr. George, being my friend would be bad for his reputation.”

Jessica just looked at her.

Rebecca’s face was a mask of regret. “I know it was wrong. I should have told you right away. I was selfish… I’m so sorry. I’m a terrible friend…”

To her surprise, Jessica smiled and pulled her into a hug. “It’s okay.”

“No, it’s not!” Rebecca insisted, her voice cracking. “It’s a huge deal. If you had known, you would have been prepared. You wouldn’t have been so blindsided when Arthur George showed up.”

“I wasn’t blindsided,” Jessica said softly. “And he was right. Even an ordinary family would have trouble accepting a son marrying a divorced woman, let alone the George family.”
