On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 34

The other two men were pinned to the ground by George’s bodyguards, unable to move.

George sat down on the sofa, with Jessica settling naturally into his lap. He raised a hand, and a small, sleek pocketknife appeared in his palm. He gently pried open her clenched fist and placed the knife in it.

His lips brushed her ear. “Bunny. Do what you need to do.”

A tremor ran through her. She wanted to, but she was afraid. She wasn’t being attacked anymore. If she did anything now, it would be assault.

George seemed to read her mind. He stroked her cheek. “Anything that happens, Mr. George will take care of it.”

One of the bodyguards glanced at him, then quickly looked away.

Still, Jessica hesitated.

George took her hand, his own wrapping around hers, guiding the knife forward. “They have no connection to you, yet they can hurt you without consequence. Why is that? Bunny, are you really okay with that? Can things possibly get any worse for you than they are right now?”

His words hit her like a lightning bolt. He was right. What could be worse than this? Her reputation was already in tatters, everyone saw her as a villain. What was she waiting for?

She closed her eyes. The sharp blade in her hand rose high.

Her eyes snapped open, wide and wild, as she brought the knife down, again and again, into the flesh of the two pinned men. The blade wasn’t long, only a couple of inches. It wouldn’t be fatal, but it would hurt.

The heavyset man screamed as the first cut landed, but his mouth was quickly muffled.

Jessica watched, detached, as she turned the men into bloody messes. Their faces were masks of terror, their eyes pleading—just as hers had been only moments ago.
