On the Ruins of His Regret I Soar novel Chapter 35

As they approached the hallway, they saw a crowd gathered around the door to one of the private rooms. Lance frowned. He stopped a server who was rushing past.

“What happened?” he asked.

“A few people got hurt bad,” the server said breathlessly. “Being taken to the hospital.”

Just then, the last of the injured was carried out on a stretcher. Lance moved closer and recognized the heavyset man from the hallway. He was covered in blood, unconscious, and mumbling incoherently.

Lance’s face darkened.

“Lance, I’m sure Jessica had nothing to do with this,” Catherine said, trying to soothe him. “Don’t worry.”

Her words had the opposite effect. Lance’s tightly controlled emotions snapped.

“Whether she was involved or not,” he said, his face a grim mask, “it has nothing to do with me.”

He turned and walked away.

“Lance, wait!” Catherine called, hurrying after him. “Are you leaving already? Let me just say goodbye to my friends.”

But in her high heels, she couldn’t keep up. She watched helplessly as he stepped into the elevator, the doors closing in her face. The moment they shut, the gentle expression on her face vanished, replaced by a cold fury.

It was blatant blackmail, but Catherine was trapped. Her original plan had been for Lance to see Jessica debasing herself for a few bottles of liquor, to make him utterly disgusted with her. But now…

“You took my money, so you know what you have to do,” she hissed. “If you dare to implicate me, I will make your lives a living hell. The Brown family has more than enough power to do that.”

The man laughed. “You originally offered two hundred thousand each. Now, it’s 200,000 dollars each.”

600,000 dollars. She had it, but paying it would nearly wipe out her personal savings. Swallowing her anger, she agreed. “The money will be in your accounts. You know what to say.”

After hanging up, Catherine opened her family’s group chat and typed a message: `Dad, do you have any connections? Jessica was working at a club, and something terrible happened. I heard someone died. The three men from her room were all taken to the hospital, and no one knows where Jessica is.`
