Oops I Banged the CEO novel Chapter 139

Yvonne’s eyelid had been twitching all day since she arrived at work.

Ever since Grace was promoted to director, things in their team hadn’t become impossibly hectic, but after Anna was fired, Yvonne had to take on some of her responsibilities at short notice.

She was so busy she barely had time to breathe, let alone take a sip of water. Linda’s standards were as demanding as ever.

By four in the afternoon, Yvonne’s phone—lying within reach on her desk—had been buzzing with calls nonstop.

She assumed it was the Zade family again and ignored it, reaching for her phone only to block the number.

But then a text message appeared.

It said her mother had collapsed, coughing up blood.

Attached were three photos.

Two were gruesome shots of her mother during the episode, and the last showed her lying in a hospital bed, frail and pale, strapped to an oxygen mask.

Yvonne’s chest tightened at once.

But she didn’t reply. Memories of being targeted and torn apart by the Zade family were still raw.

Her own mother had never once stood up for her. Thinking of that, Yvonne forced herself to calm down.

She was about to block the number when another message popped up:

**“Dad’s been arrested. I have to go to school. Come take care of your mom and pay the hospital bill while you’re at it. If you don’t handle this, just be ready to pick up her body. I’m not dealing with it.”**

Yvonne’s expression chilled, her hands shaking with anger.

This was her mother’s stepdaughter, the one her mother doted on as her own. In a crisis, she was eager for Yvonne to take the fall. All the years Yvonne tried to please them, treating them as family—what was the point?

She didn’t reply. She blocked the number.

Ten minutes later, Yvonne’s phone rang again, this time from a landline—the hospital.

She hesitated, then picked up.

An older nurse spoke, explaining her mother’s symptoms and expressing concern. The hospital needed someone to pay the bills.

But more urgently, they needed her to sign a consent form for surgery. Without it, they couldn’t proceed, and any delay could put her mother at further risk.

“All right. I’m on my way.” Yvonne didn’t want to go. Her mother had a history of stomach problems, and now it was sudden appendicitis. No matter how cold she tried to be, she couldn’t just leave her to die.

She glanced at her unfinished work, stood up, and went to explain things to Linda.

To her surprise, Linda agreed to her request right away.

Yvonne quickly gathered her things and hurried downstairs to the parking lot, racing to the hospital.

After paying the bills and signing the consent form, she watched as her mother was wheeled into surgery.

She stood outside the operating room, stiff and silent.

Her face was blank, showing neither pain nor tears.

Flashes of memory ran through her mind—her younger self, helpless and abandoned, despised and pushed aside.

Thank God she’d grown up. She had her own life now and didn’t have to stay trapped in that toxic family.

Yvonne sighed and made her way to the nurse’s station to hire a temporary caregiver.

She’d just finished the arrangements when her phone rang again—this time, it was a call from a towing company.

That caught her attention.

Who would pay to ruin her like this?

Tracy? No way. She owed money everywhere for her plastic surgeries—she’d never have enough to bribe John and his brother to pull a stunt like this.

So who else?

Yvonne racked her brain, but couldn’t come up with a name.

Curled up in the trunk, she struggled against the rope, but the knot was too tight.

The hospital wasn’t far from the Zade family’s neighborhood—ten, maybe fifteen minutes away. If she got dragged out of this car by those two, her life would be over.

She had to save herself.

Clenching her teeth, she fought harder, but the rope wouldn’t budge.

Suddenly, her fingers brushed against the fitness tracker on her wrist.

It was synced to her phone—if she pressed the emergency alert, her designated contact would be notified.

Her heart leapt. She pressed the button, felt the vibration, and was just about to rejoice—when dread washed over her.

Her emergency contact was still her mother.

As panic set in, the car came to a stop. The trunk opened.

“No one’s around. Let’s move,” Jason urged, barely able to contain himself.
