Yvonne didn’t leave as she was told.
Noticing her hesitation, Jessica’s brows drew tighter. “I’m talking to you. Didn’t you hear me?”
Yvonne was about to respond when footsteps echoed from the hallway.
Jessica immediately shoved Yvonne aside, grabbed a thermos, and hurried toward the door, unscrewing the lid as she went.
“Grandma Hamilton, have some warm ginseng tea. I added a bit of honey just for you.” Jessica held the thermos and gently offered it to Mrs. Hamilton, who sat in her wheelchair.
“Thank you, dear. I can manage.” The elderly Mrs. Hamilton, still weakened from a recent medical exam, took a couple of sips.
When the medical team finally lifted Mrs. Hamilton onto the hospital bed, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Yvonne, worried, stepped forward, wanting to check on her.
But Jessica quickly blocked her path. “Who are you, exactly? Mrs. Hamilton is still recovering. What are you trying to do to her?”
Mrs. Hamilton’s eyes lit up when she saw Yvonne being stopped. “My sweet granddaughter-in-law, you’re here.”
At those words, Jessica’s eyes widened with shock for a split second, but she quickly masked her reaction with a graceful, practiced smile. “You’re Mr. Hamilton’s wife?”
Yvonne nodded. “Yes.”
“Grandma, I made you some pastries.” She lifted a lunchbox. “Marico told me you had to get checked this morning. I was worried you’d be too exhausted to eat properly.”
Jessica finally noticed the wedding band on Yvonne’s left ring finger—a matching set with Marico’s.
From that moment, Jessica’s stunned gaze never left Yvonne.
Her poise and manners were impeccable, making her a delight to be around.
Yvonne accepted with a polite smile. “Thank you.”
She took a sip. “It’s very nice.”
Jessica’s smile grew even sweeter. “Thank you, Mrs. Hamilton. But with your flawless complexion, this tea can only be the icing on the cake.”
Jessica’s compliments were honeyed and effortless, and Mrs. Hamilton chuckled in delight.
Yvonne responded with a slight smile, but kept her own judgment about Jessica guarded.
Still, when Marico arrived, her suspicions were quietly confirmed.
