Oops I Banged the CEO novel Chapter 169

Jessica’s face visibly fell, despite the smile she tried to maintain. Yvonne could see right through it—the embarrassment and discomfort were plain as day.

Still, Jessica was nothing if not resilient. She composed herself in an instant, acting as if nothing had happened, and walked off in the direction Marico had indicated.

The house was spacious. Downstairs, there was a guest suite, a maid’s room, and a storage area.

As Yvonne headed upstairs, she glanced back at Marico.

He met her gaze, his eyes deep and steady.

Something about that quiet strength made Yvonne trust him, even if she couldn’t quite explain why.

“We’ll have dinner delivered from the restaurant tonight,” Marico decided, but he still let Yvonne know. “I’ll call ahead and have them prepare everything.”

“Sounds good,” Yvonne replied. “We can cook at home another time, when things aren’t so hectic.”

Marico nodded and reached for his phone to place the order, asking them to follow the usual menu.

Honestly, Yvonne didn’t feel up to cooking anymore. Takeout sounded just fine—especially if it meant Jessica wouldn’t get to enjoy a home-cooked meal.

Upstairs, Yvonne found several shirts in her closet, the tags still attached. She picked out a few colors for Jessica to choose from.

She knocked gently on the bathroom door. “Dr. Moore, are you alright?”

Inside, Jessica was staring at her reflection, her face dark and stormy. Even so, she pasted on a fake smile and replied, “I’m fine.”

“I brought you some clean shirts. Pick whichever one you like,” Yvonne offered.

“Anything’s fine,” Jessica replied curtly.

“Just open the door a bit so I can hand them over.” Yvonne stood outside, holding the shirts, and passed them through the narrow gap when Jessica opened the door.

“Coco’s normally very well-behaved. He just got burned, poor thing—that’s why he freaked out,” Yvonne replied, her heart aching for her dog.

She didn’t know exactly what had happened, but she could guess. Jessica had probably tried to pull a sympathy act.

She’d seen the look on Jessica’s face as she headed upstairs, that little glint of satisfaction in her eyes. Yvonne was sure she wasn’t imagining it.

The thought soured Yvonne’s mood.

“Oh,” Mrs. Hamilton murmured, watching Yvonne cradle the puppy. “He was perfectly fine when I was holding him. Dr. Moore hadn’t even handed over the teacup when he jumped up so suddenly.”

“Thank goodness Dr. Moore reacted quickly, or it would’ve been you who got burned, Mrs. Hamilton,” Edith chimed in from nearby.

Yvonne didn’t offer any further explanation. She didn’t want to seem argumentative in front of Grandma Hamilton. Carrying Coco over to his crate, she said, “I’m just glad you’re alright, Grandma. I’ll go give Coco something to eat.”
