"Leave. I don't want to see you," Nicholas grimly said.
Sensing the tension in the room, Amelia felt a pang of dread. She hurried forward, grabbed Annie by the arm, and guided her out of the ward.
Once in the corridor, Amelia sighed. "Ms. Steward, Mr. Warner is… just angry right now. Don't take it to heart. He and Ms. Monroe have been through so much together. With her now in there, fighting for her life, it's only natural that he's overwhelmed with emotion."
With a sincere look in her eyes, Amelia promised, "You don't have to worry. We won't wrongly accuse an innocent person."
Annie nodded. "Thank you, Ms. Brown."
She cast one last glance at the ICU's tightly shut doors.
Maeve had to pull through.
Annie turned and walked away, glancing back every once in a while. She knitted her brows, her mind in complete chaos.
The bald head, the anonymous messages, and the janitor who appeared out of nowhere…
She wondered who was pulling the strings behind all of this.
Lost in her thoughts, she reached the elevator doors without realizing it. She was about to press the elevator call button when she failed to see someone walking toward her and slammed into them.
"Oh, I'm sorry," she instinctively blurted as she looked up. But the instant she saw who it was, her face went rigid.
It was Sean.
A wave of indescribable disgust rose in Annie, and her apologetic expression vanished in an instant. She didn't want anything to do with him.
With a deadpan look, Annie turned away and hit the elevator button, acting as if she hadn't noticed him.
However, her arm was abruptly seized by a firm grip.
Sean blocked her path. He eyed her, a mocking smirk curling his lips. "What's up? Caught in a bit of trouble?"
