Annie flashed Christian a dazed smile, her lips parting as if she wanted to say something.
But in the next second, her head tipped sideways, and she collapsed onto her folded arm, drunk and asleep on the dining table.
Christian helplessly shook his head and decided to forget it. Whatever secret she was carrying and whatever that "start over" meant, didn't matter now that she was his wife.
That was everything that mattered.
He slipped out of his suit jacket, carefully draped it over her shoulders, then circled to her side and lifted her into his arms.
She was light and obediently snuggled against his chest. After finding a comfortable position, she soon drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
Carrying her, Christian strode toward the exit of the restaurant.
The restaurant's director had been waiting by the door. The moment Christian appeared, the former nodded repeatedly. "Thank you for visiting, Mr. Parker."
Christian kept his gaze fixed ahead and walked straight past him with the sleeping Annie in his arms.
Not far away, a private room door swung open. Sean stepped out with a few colleagues, laughing as they headed toward the parking lot.
At a glance, he caught a glimpse of the familiar silhouette and the woman in his arms. It was Annie!
"Dr. Frost, isn't that your ex-fiancee?" a sharp-eyed colleague asked and nudged his elbow.
Another colleague who seemed to know what was going on chimed in, "I heard Ms. Steward's grandma had a sudden relapse a couple of days ago and was hospitalized. They even hired Dr. Lawson to perform the surgery. That's some serious money."
William Lawson…
Sean frowned deeply. Since when did William return?
His deadly stare was fixed on Christian, who was carrying Annie. That tall, straight silhouette looked familiar and very much like the man who'd been with Annie at the fashion design contest.
Back then, Sean believed Annie had just hired someone to put on an act and piss him off, but now, it seemed she'd actually gotten together with Christian!
The looks of sympathy and amusement from colleagues felt like a sharp pang of humiliation was shot straight to Sean's head. In that moment, it felt like Annie had ground his pride under her heel.
They'd barely called off their engagement, yet she'd already found another man and had him carry her so intimately in public.
How dared she!
