At the top floor of Parker Group, inside the CEO's office, Christian set down his pen the moment he heard Suzanna's panicked voice through the phone. His brows tightened instantly. "Say it clearly."
"I was just on the phone with Ann. She seemed to be on some mountain road out in the countryside, and then it started thundering. The call cut off, and now her phone's switched off! I'm worried… I'm worried something happened to her!" Suzanna said.
Christian's grip on the phone tightened so hard his fingers turned white. He grabbed the blazer hanging over the back of his chair. "Got it."
He started the car engine and shot into the rain. With one hand on the wheel, he dialed Michael with the other. "Locate Annie's phone now."
On the other end, Michael jolted upright. He had never heard Christian speak in that tone. Something serious had happened. "Yes, Mr. Parker!"
Without hesitation, Michael hung up and immediately typed across the keyboard at full speed. Within a minute, a precise location pin and live map were sent to Christian's phone.
Christian glanced at the blinking red dot and pressed harder on the accelerator.
More than an hour later, he finally reached the mountains. Up ahead, glaring red-and-blue lights blocked the road. Police cars and an ambulance stood in a line, and yellow tape stretched across the entire lane.
Christian slammed the brakes. Before the car even stopped fully, he shoved the door open and looked past the barricade.
The entire mountainside had collapsed. Mud, broken trees, and massive rocks filled the road. It was a landslide.
He pulled out his phone. The blinking dot sat right in the middle of that destruction.
His blood froze. Something icy crawled through his bones. Annie was in there.
For a moment, everything in him snapped. He lunged toward the barricade like a man who had lost his mind.
"Sir, it's dangerous! You can't go in!" A young officer rushed forward to block him.
