Helena's heart clenched. Her anger immediately turned into sorrow.
She collapsed onto the couch and covered her face. Her voice cracked when she yelled, "It's all because of Cecilia!
"Because she kept stirring up trouble, I was scolded by the Frosts at Frost Manor for your sake! How could you treat me like this?"
Sean looked annoyed. He didn't think it was a big deal at all.
He stood and stared down at Helena arrogantly. "Mom, I don't need the Steward family's help."
He was the youngest chief of the Cardiac Surgery Department. Through his own efforts, he had risen to that position and made a name for himself.
When had he ever needed to rely on the power of his wife's family? He thought that it was such a joke.
His stubbornness made Helena so angry that her heart ached. She stood back up and pointed at him. "Y-You…"
She finally understood that there was no use in reasoning with her son. Helena glared at him, gnashed her teeth, and yelled, "You'll regret this!"
Then, she grabbed her handbag and left without turning back. The front door was slammed shut with a loud bang.
The world fell silent. Sean hadn't moved from his spot. His expression was so gloomy that it was as if dark clouds hung over his head.
Right after Helena left, someone gently pushed the door open from the outside. Cecilia had returned.
She stood in the foyer, her face even paler than the white dress she wore, her eyes red as if she had just been crying.
When she saw Sean's gloomy expression and the trash can knocked over beside his foot, she realized that Helena had just left.
Cecilia had deliberately waited by the door until Helena's car drove away before entering. The time was just right for her to step in.
Tears trailed down Cecilia's cheeks as she silently wept.
