Nurses and patients nearby cast surprised glances at Annie and Sean. But once they saw Sean's dark, stormy expression, they all hastily stepped aside.
He dragged Annie straight into an empty VIP ward.
A young nurse hurried in when she heard the commotion. The moment she saw Sean, she greeted him respectfully, "Dr. Frost."
Sean pointed at Annie, who had been tossed onto the couch, and ordered coldly, "Take her blood pressure and run a blood test."
The nurse froze for a moment, but still obediently picked up the blood pressure monitor and blood-drawing tools.
In Annie's past life, Sean had spoken in the same cold, almost cruel tone at that exact spot, ordering a nurse to draw her blood for Cecilia.
History was repeating itself with frightening similarity.
So that was how it was. It seemed that Cecilia's leukemia had relapsed, and once again, Sean had set his sights on Annie.
Annie abruptly stood up from the couch. Her gaze was icy as she met his eyes, her voice showing no hint of retreat. "I'm not doing it. Sean, we've already broken off our engagement. You have no right to make me do anything. What you're doing right now is illegal detention. If you don't let me go, I'll call the police."
Instead of getting mad at her bristling defensiveness, Sean seemed oddly patient. He even curled his lips into a shallow, self-satisfied smile.
It was as if he understood her completely.
The tantrums and moods were just her way of getting his attention. Deep down, she was still clinging to him and was too stubborn to admit it.
"Annie, don't make a fuss," he intentionally softened his voice, coaxing, "I know you're still mad at me. You're only doing this to force my hand. It's all so I'll agree to marry you, so you can give your grandmother an explanation."
