Savage (Reagan and Kieran) novel Chapter 11

Kieran

Baby steps. I take baby steps so I can keep in control. I’ve been out of control for too long. Samson has been out of my control for too long.

I sit, as my mate suggested and begin eating the food that Elias got for me. He even heated it up as if I’m incapable of doing that for myself. Sadly, he’s right. As I take a bite of food, forcing it down, I watch him going through my things, expertly navigating my bags and collecting what I’ll need for tonight and setting it out in easy reach for me to access without any thought at all.

“Elias.”

“Yes, Alpha?” he asks, not looking at me.

“Elias!” I say, putting more force behind it.

He stops and looks at me. “Yes, Alpha?”

“Go shower. You’ve been taking care of me for far too long. I’ll be okay. My mate is in the next room. I can smell her.” I don’t mention that I can feel her emotions, although I can. Concern is what I’m getting from her.

He looks at where he’s laying out my things like he’s desperate to finish what he started.

“Elias, I can do it. And if I can’t, I know you will do it for me,” I say to him, my tone more gentle. I’m pretty sure I owe this man my life.

His shoulders slump as if he’s let me down. “I’ll just be in the bathroom, Alpha. I’ll leave the door open. If you need me ...”

“If I need something, my mate will help me. She can help much more than you can. But thank you, Elias, for everything.”

“You’re my Alpha. I love you. I just want you to be healthy again.”

“And I love you enough to tell you to go take care of yourself. I’m going to eat and when you’re done showering, I’m going to do the same. As Reagan said, Samson can’t get out. You can sleep tonight. You need it.”

He nods and grabs his things, taking them to the bathroom.

I continue to force the food down my throat. It tastes like cardboard and feels just as dry when I try to swallow it, but I force it down.

I’ve just finished eating as much of the food as I can possibly force down when there’s a knock at the door. It swings open before I can get to it.

Reagan looks at me, looking me over from head to toe quickly as if assessing if I’ve sustained any injuries since she saw me thirty minutes ago.

She looks at the box in the garbage can. “Did you eat?”

“I ate as much as I could. Food is ... tasteless and literally hard to swallow.”

She nods. “Shower?”

“As soon as Elias comes out.”

“How is Samson?”

“Quiet.”

She nods again. “I’m going to bed. I’m exhausted after a long day of driving and ... everything that happened last night. I will say again for you and Samson, you cannot get out of this room. If you need anything at all, come to me. But if you try anything, you will regret it.”

She says it with quiet confidence and I have no doubt that she will not be taken unaware by Samson again.

“Once I’ve showered, I’ll be going to bed as well. As much as I slept today, I still feel tired.”

“Get some sleep. Maybe tomorrow, if you can stay awake, we can talk.”

“I’d like that,” I say, just as Elias walks out.

“Oh. I can ...” he gestures to the bathroom.

“No, it’s okay. I’m going to sleep. I was just making sure that Kieran and Samson were alright before I did,” she says before turning to me. “Goodnight Kieran.”

“Goodnight, Reagan.”

“Goodnight, Gamma,” she says.

“Goodnight, Luna,” Elias says.

I watch her jaw clench, but she doesn’t deny his claim. I duck my head to hide my smile.
