“You gave everything for the Smith family and they just tossed you aside. Don’t you hate them for that? Right now, there’s a chance to get rid of Camila Davis and make Jordan Smith miserable. If you’re interested, Ms. Taylor, we can work together.”
Sandra Taylor was a much easier person to convince than Lavinia Roberts. After everything she’d been through, her nerves were completely frayed, and her resentment toward Camila Davis had only gotten stronger over time.
Of course, she hadn’t forgotten Jordan Smith either. She’d loved him so much, but he chose to leave her behind. If she couldn’t be with him, then Camila didn’t deserve happiness either. There was no way she’d let Camila come back to the Smith family with a child and just pick up where she left off.
Before, Sandra had been powerless to do anything about Camila. But Lavinia Roberts was a true local socialite, born and raised in Cabinda. Even if the Roberts family wasn’t what it used to be, they still had connections Sandra could only dream of.
Sandra didn’t hesitate for even a second. Her smile twisted into something cold. “Fine. I’m in. There’s only one thing I want—I want Camila Davis gone. For good.”
“No problem,” Patton agreed without missing a beat. “Once Camila is caught, she’s yours to deal with.”
With everything settled, Patton went back to give Cynthia Lee an update.
“Miss, it’s done.”
Cynthia looked pleased, sipping her coffee with a little smirk. “Give them whatever backup they need. If any problems come up, help them solve it. When it comes to catching Camila Davis, I want you to make sure nothing goes wrong.”
Patton nodded right away. “You can count on me, miss. Everything will go smoothly.”
While all this was happening, Camila Davis and her family had no idea that trouble was brewing.
That Saturday afternoon, after a lazy nap, they took Lillian out to walk Lightning.
Lightning had grown into a big, strong dog. When he ran, he was so fast he really did look like a flash of lightning, impossible to catch. Because of that, they always kept their walks inside the villa community, where it was safe to let him run free in front of the house.
Melissa George and her husband had been living there a while, and they’d gotten friendly with the other families in the neighborhood. Everyone’s kids would come over to play together.
That afternoon, there was a whole group of little kids running around, playing hide-and-seek by the playground. One second, Lillian was there. The next, she was gone.
Melissa had gone upstairs to grab a water bottle for her. When she came back down and called for Lillian, she couldn’t find her anywhere.
“Honey, where’s Lillian?” Melissa asked, feeling a wave of worry hit her.
