“Useless,” Cynthia snapped. “I set everything up perfectly and they still blew it? How are they supposed to get revenge if they can’t even do this much? What a joke.”

Patton, her steady advisor, tried to calm her down. “You can’t really blame them. As soon as Camila got to Harrisburg, she went straight to the Smiths’ estate. That family is basically royalty there, security is tight, and it’s nearly impossible to get any info from the inside.”

Even at their best, Lavinia and Sandra would’ve struggled to snoop around the Smiths’ place.

Cynthia frowned. “Didn’t Lucas Smith used to be completely obsessed with Sandra Taylor? Now that she’s down and out, he’s just going to do nothing? He won’t even try to help?”

Patton shook his head. “Who knows. Sandra was like a goddess to him, but after everything that happened, he probably can’t even stand to think about her. They haven’t talked in ages. If he still cared, Sandra wouldn’t have ended up as some old man’s toy.”

Cynthia started to wonder if she’d made the wrong move. “Honestly, what a pair of losers. I can’t believe I ever thought they were good enough to be useful.”

Patton spoke softly, trying to keep her from spiraling. “Don’t get so worked up. We missed this chance, but there will be others. Even if Camila goes back to Cabinda, she can’t stay hidden forever.”

Cynthia sighed, frustrated but not arguing back. Just then, Nicholas Lee walked in.

He could tell from her face that something was bothering her. “What’s wrong? You look miserable. Did something happen?”

“It’s Camila Davis, of course. Those two idiots, Lavinia and Sandra, lost track of her…” Cynthia filled him in.

Nicholas didn’t look surprised or upset. “Depending on two people with no real backing was always risky. Their security team just wasn’t up to the job.”

“So what do you suggest?” Cynthia asked, confused.
