He ended the call and turned to speak to Grandpa Williams, but the family had already heard everything. The old man waved him off and said, “No need to explain, just go home and check on her.”
Dennis nodded and hurried out.
When he burst into the house, Camila was lying on the bed with her eyes closed, her face full of unease and her brows all bunched up.
Dennis felt his heart twist with worry.
“Camila, are you okay?”
She opened her eyes at the sound of his voice. Her gaze was watery and vulnerable, and she looked at him like she was about to cry. “Honey, my head hurts so much…”
Her small, soft voice was pitiful and sweet, and it made Dennis want to wrap her up and protect her from everything. He sat beside her, gently brushing her hair. “Don’t worry. Let me massage your head. You’ll feel better in a little bit.”
“Okay,” she whispered, snuggling closer and resting her head in his lap.
He pressed his cool fingers to her temples, working small, careful circles. His touch was gentle but steady.
Slowly, the pain in Camila’s head started to melt away. She let out a quiet sigh and relaxed, her whole body softening under his hands.
After she drifted off to sleep, Dennis dimmed the bedside lamp and held her close, settling in beside her and keeping her safe through the night.
Meanwhile, at the Lee house, Cynthia Lee was keeping an eye on Larry Adams and the funeral he was arranging for his mother. At the same time, her bodyguards called in with a shocking update: Camila had been set up while she was in Harrisburg. She’d lost her memory. She didn’t even remember Dennis or anyone else around her.
The news took Cynthia by surprise. Camila had amnesia?
But after the shock wore off, Cynthia actually started to smile. Maybe this was her lucky break.
Camila used to be impossible to approach, always ready for a fight from the moment they met. But now… if Camila didn’t remember anything, wasn’t this the perfect time to get close to her? Maybe she could finally push Camila out of the picture for good.
A sly look flashed in Cynthia’s eyes.
She called for Patton. “Go let Lavinia Roberts and Sandra Taylor know about Camila’s amnesia. Those two idiots missed their chance before, but now I’m giving them another one. If they want payback, they’d better be smarter this time. If they try anything, have our people help out, and make sure they know exactly where Camila is.”
