Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1102

Dennis watched Sandra Taylor, who wore her smugness like a crown. There was a cold sharpness in his eyes, but when he spoke to Camila, his voice was gentle and soothing. “She’s as good as gone, Camila. You don’t need to know who she is.”

Camila clung to his shirt, her whole body shivering. If she hadn’t thought fast and offered to fix RedFox’s leg, if RedFox had been just as ruthless as the others, she’d be the one locked up in that cage right now.

Even imagining that fate made her feel sick with dread. Her anger grew hot and wild inside her.

Dennis wrapped his arms around her, his hand moving in slow circles on her back, wordlessly letting her know she was safe. Out of Camila’s sight, he caught Aaron’s eye, the look he gave him was icy and full of warning.

Aaron got the message and slipped out of the room.

Outside, Sandra was practically giddy, ready to watch Camila suffer, when someone in the next room caught her off guard. When she got a good look at Aaron’s face, her own went pale with shock.

Wait, wasn’t this Dennis Williams’s assistant? Why was he here?

A bad feeling washed over her. She turned to confront Inman, but before she could even open her mouth, a group of men rushed her and shoved her to the ground.

“What are you doing? Let go of me!” Sandra yelled, fear taking over her voice.

She thrashed and kicked, but these guys were all muscle, and she might as well have been fighting a brick wall.

Finally, her brain caught up to reality. She was on Red Spider’s turf. Dennis’s men couldn’t be here unless Red Spider had let them in. She glared at Inman, her anger boiling over. “So this is your idea of business? You’re just going to break your promises?”

Inman seemed to have recovered from the earlier chaos. Aaron’s arrival didn’t surprise him. Sandra’s complaint only made him smile. He shook his head, looking relaxed. “Sorry, Sandra. We do business, sure, but not every deal is worth making. Yours isn’t one of them anymore.”

Before Sandra could even explode, screams echoed from the cage. She spun around and saw what was happening. The woman she thought was Camila, the one who’d been lying limp and helpless, suddenly jumped up, swept her leg out, and took down every last one of the hired thugs.
