Patton didn't keep anything from Cynthia Lee. As soon as he got the news, he passed it on.

The second Cynthia heard it, her whole face lit up with excitement. She couldn't help blurting out, “Is it true? Did Camila Davis actually go down?”

Patton nodded seriously. “Seems like it. Lavinia Roberts and Sandra Taylor have no reason to lie to me. Unless, of course, they've been caught.”

That last part made Cynthia pause. She took a breath, her mind working fast. “It’s not impossible. Dennis is pretty capable, after all.”

The possibility that Camila Davis hadn’t actually been destroyed, that she’d been celebrating for nothing, wiped the smile right off Cynthia’s face. Her lips pressed into a thin line, her mood sinking.

Patton noticed the shift and tried to reassure her. “Ms. Lee, don’t stress. Even if we’re not sure about the girls, we can double-check. If something really happened to Camila, her family back home wouldn’t just sit there. We can keep an eye on them, quietly.”

Cynthia nodded, thinking it through. “You’re right. There’s no way her family wouldn’t know if she disappeared. Go find out what you can and get back to me as soon as possible.”
