Camila Davis nodded, not entirely sure she could help, but she couldn’t bring herself to leave Dennis working by himself. So she curled up against him, quietly watching the screen over his shoulder.
Dennis Williams tapped away on his laptop, flipping back and forth between routes and cross-checking all the information he’d collected. He was starting to notice a pattern, though he wasn’t completely convinced yet. Just as he was about to go over everything one more time, Camila pointed to a spot on the map.
“Every route crosses through this place,” she said. “Is that just a coincidence?”
Dennis paused, surprised. He glanced down at her in his arms, then gave a soft laugh. “Looks like you and I are thinking the same thing.”
Camila shook her head. “Honestly, I only noticed because your mouse kept hovering over it. You probably figured it out way before me, right? Otherwise, you wouldn’t be measuring all those distances from that spot.”
Dennis didn’t deny it. “I’m just trying to crack the code. I’m not sure if I’ve got it right yet.”
Even though he sounded uncertain, Camila had a feeling he was on the right track. She knew he was only double-checking out of caution and responsibility.
Thinking about how hard he’d worked for her lately, Camila felt a wave of warmth rush through her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her cheek to his. “You’ve really done a lot for me,” she whispered. “You’ve been running around nonstop.”
